Chubs or Shiners
« on: Jan 23, 2013, 08:30 AM »
This weekend I am going out to Lake Poinsett to fish for some pike using tip ups. We are going to get 3 dozen minnows altogether. I was wondering which one was better so I could buy more of them.

Creek Chubs and Shiners, r two different species, and vary in size.

I like using a combination of both, your average chub will be 4in plus, your shiners average 3.

If targeting pike I like to set 2 rigs with chubs, one with bare circle hook the other with a quick strike rig
the other 2, one a bare octopus hook size 6, and the other whatever jig u like that has a treble hook with 3 minnows attached by tail.

all set at different depths, experiment, find what works for you,

but to answer your question I would get a dozen an a half chubs, and a scoop of minnows, if you use all of that bait, then you had a darn good outing.

good luck on the ice
Jesus was said to have walked on water, I feel comfort in knowing he was an avid ice fisherman like me.
