Second use for Alligator Clip
« on: Jan 22, 2017, 10:16 AM »
Thanks to Bassquatch I am rigging all my tip-ups like this. When I use the larger bait I don't have to tighten down the spool and this seems like it will be adjustable depending how far back you put the line. Just an alligator clip with a screw protector super glued on the tips. Thanks Keith for the idea!

Very Cool!  I have to redo all mine soon. I have to rebuild the entire tilts too lol.
I used clothes pins briefly, they just wouldn't hold the BIG suckers 10" or so. Even some of the healthy 6"-8" would pull off the clothes pins.

Will they hold big suckers? Might have to keep some on hand.

No problem Keith.
When the band is double wrapped it is really tight.

Just pop them on and thats it, no extra hardware needed.

The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.

Clothes pins will work, but you have to put a rubber band around them to make them tighter.  Rubber coated alligator clips work great too, but I have found that downrigger clips work the best.  They can get pricey, but sometimes you can find deals that sell them in multi packs.  I pre drilled a small hole and used a screw with wood glue to secure them.  It will last forever without having to fuss with it.

I thought about doing the alligator clips this year, as I was sick of fooling with the clothes pins, but then I found these releases... http://www.ebay.com/itm/121857876444
I bought an 8 pack, they shipped quick. they definitely aren't super high quality but seem to work good. and you cant beat the price as far as release clips go. I haven't attached them yet or tried them out on the ice but looking forward to if we ever get some more ice around here.

Got to admit having my first summer in almost a decade not having to spend 7 days a week running the driving range was a nice feeling. Hope the new owners did it justice
