I thank random soldiers in uniform all the time. Coffee at D&D, stop and shop, or just a quick thanks at the gas station. They all seem very surprised and very humble. My daughter thinks it's pretty cool even getting to talk to them.

It's too bad the military doesn't carry the celebrity status they deserve as society bows to all these derelict athletes but not our first responders and soldiers/CG. Kind of like when someone picked John over Yoko as their target. Just doesn't make sense.
