So a few weeks back Space Ghost posted on here about a fishing derby for wounded Marines and asked for anyone to help however they could. I called that day, but honestly was very frustrated at how hard it was to get a response from anyone at the organization.

Well today is my birthday.....And I got a call from a Outreach Program Coordinator from Walter Reid Military Hospital in Bethesda Maryland. I have booked a date for as many as 30 returned veterans to come up to the Berks for a day of ice fishing! Their transportation will be taken care of by Walter Reid, but their Hotels are FREE becuase of my relationship with sevarl local hotels. Also they will be getting FREE meals from a local restaraunt.
Also I have tapped my contacts with HT and Vexilar to get some free merchandise for the guys coming out.

Due to the agreement with Walter Reid, I can not post what day or lake for privacy concerns....but needless to say... that thread will be pic heavy!

I'm pumped to get to give back!

Paul, that is awesome, nice job getting that done!! A truly patriotic and selfless act. The Marines that will be coming up will surely have a great time!! Props to the hotels and restaurants for stepping up also and providing the meals and lodging and to HT and Vexilar for providing the gear. AMERICA... HELL YEAH!!

At the end of the day we are ALL here for a good time (except MIllbury...He's here to guthook Bass...lol keith) It bothers me how all us fellow fisherman get at eachother sometimes instead of just fishing...jesus man...it's just fishing!

Paul,

Every post I read from you demonstrates everything we as a society should strive to be.
Whether your retuning someones lost goods, refunding money on a miscalculated transaction, apologizing for being quick tempered, to this..
You sir are a class act.

And while I'm not a vet, my mother, father, sister, grandfather, and 2 cousins are.

I hope to meet and fish with you some day.

Tafts, you are without a doubt one hella man. I personally appreciate everything you have done to make this possible for these heroes. There is no doubt that you and everyone involved will take care of them the way they deserve. I am honored to have been able to speak with you over the last couple weeks after i made that post. 1 of 2 people who took the time to post and talk to me about it.

Please, do not hesitate to contact me if you need any volunteers to come and assist you. I would walk the whole way if i have to.

AWESOME...as a veteran of both Afghanistan and Iraq w/12yrs. of service..thank you. most people don't know there are still servicemen and women overseas dieing everyday, and people like myself, who still haven't adjusted.....that may be why my wife lets me fish all the time.

In 1968 an auto accident had me admitted to Chelsie Navel Hospital in Boston. I was on ward F (the head ward). Ironically, my Corpsman was a High School classmate and teammate. He went on to Vietnam. Recently he was treated and helped by Outreach. Last year, for the first time in my life, someone out of the clear blue thanked me for my service. So I would like to thank Outreach for what they do. I would also like to thank Tafts ta for helping the veterans and raise awareness. The results are fare reaching.
