if you are talking about oakland counties white lake..its been safe most of the year already...with the exception of that really warm warm up...but its locked again..not sure on the thickness, but people are out all over it.

I went out there just before the warm up and there was parts with 2 1/2" and others with 5", the 2 1/2" I'm positive and the 5" I heard of a guy going out off second street and it being 5" out in the middle but only 3" on the edge. Overall I would say you can fish White lake but be very very careful if you are fishing near the narrows cause of the current in the lake making some ice safe and other ice un safe. O yeah it must have allot of slush on the lake cause there was at least 10" of snow before the warm weather then it got real cold and then snowed so I would say there is allot of slush and not allot of ice. If you do go out be careful and good luck.

After the cold snap the last couple of days - my guess is all that slush hardened up and started making more ice.

I went spud-checking at Cottage Grove on Muskegon Lake this afternoon. Spud-checking soon went to power auger testing. I didn't measure, but if I still had my quadrunner, I'd say it was plenty safe for that (at least 6+ inches of white and black combined). I'm not sure what conditions are like on the rest of the lake but I saw shanties off the Sand Docks (where I heard they got limits of perch today) and off Johnson's Point and Second Street.
