Ice Well
« on: Dec 19, 2006, 12:38 PM »
I ran a search, but couldn't find any info on the subject.
I was thinking about buying one of these "Ice Wells" and
was looking for some feedback from anyone who has used/seen them before.
I was planning on using it to keep bait alive (i.e. smelt for my tip-ups, etc.)
and maybe for keeping fish for the dinner table from freezing solid.
Thanks in advance.

I've used them in the summer with good results. Kept fish alive until we loaded the boat, and was easy to unload, just grab the handle and go. Stores in little space to. Have not used one in the winter. But now I will try it and see how it turns out.

I use a cooler, with the same as long as the cooler isnt filled with water it will not freeze, it will just stay nice and cold. I keep the cooler just out of the shanty, and toss the fish into it instead of onto the ice.

I do what holmes76 does .
It gives the fish a little room and keeps them in their native water as long as possible .

that would work well unless temps are near 0 then you will have a nice ice chunk after 60 minutes

Thanks for the input.  I did end up ordering one and will let you guys know if it's worth the $20.  That is if we ever get some ice in CT.
