Going to caspian this weekend, targeting rainbows and lakers, any tips would be greatly appreciated never been there before

I dont know if your a tip up fisherman or not but I wouldn't bother setting any if you can put smelt on them, I would jig from 20-60 ft of water with Rapalas and marabou jig , pound the bod-om  ;)

Oh one more thing I shad jig in 20-60 ft of water you might be surprised what you can pull out of 1.5' of water for rainbows and Lakers I just dont jig there ;) good luck and let us know how you do

smelt are the key for quanity. quality is a matter of having a good spot. good luck catching them though... the bite is slow but theyre down there if you look. our equation for lakers is 1 smelt = 1 trout. haha

You need help catching smelts?  Did you guys get the shanty out?  I was thinking of heading over Saturday, maybe.

Try nightcrawlers for the rainbows, just under the ice 5-6 feet or in shallow. Half a crawler with no weight and small hooks works good.
