Walleye vs perch on the table.
« on: Jan 29, 2013, 05:10 PM »
Was just broiling my walleye from the other day for dinner. My wife says she LOVES the broiled perch I make but won't eat the walleye. Says it tastes way too much different. Tried to explain that walleye and perch are in the same "family" and taste pretty much identical. She wasn't buying it.  ??? :-\

I personally prefer stripes over eyes on the table, but the wife & boys will eat anything that swims including pickerel & pike. Only thing they won't mess with is catfish

None of the past three wifes never liked any fish regardless of what 'family' they were from, LOL! I love both, but nice big walleye cheeks fried in some butter are the best!
You can get a good look at a steak by sticking your head up a bull's a$$, but wouldn't you rather take the butcher's word for it??

Give them some deboned  pike and they'll never want perch or eye again.

I conducted a little experiment one time, had a fish fry party, one guy in particular always said perch are far better than eyes..and that he could tell the difference between them any day of the week, ,, well i cut some walleye fillets in half and breaded them up long before he got there... 5 beers into it i asked how the fish was, Awesome!!  He says... Perch are always the best... Then i told him they were walleye...

You can't go wrong with either. If she eats any fried try cutting both in strips before breaking/frying and she won't know the difference.

I had my wife try both, she could not tell the difference.  either one works fine for me, but the walleye are much less work on the fillet!!

If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 36 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might live in northern New York

cmon now ...its like comparing cuts of beef!
porterhouse, tbone, prime rib, ribeyes, etc....

I would not complain nor compare when either or both are sitting in front of me! ;D

Sometimes you have to fish when you can,
not when you want, but guess what?

You're still fishing!!!

To me no difference other than quantity of meat from the fish and perch seem a little firmer to me. Both are aces on the plate.

Pike is good and equal to a full eye filet. Perch are hands down the best. Eyes double fileted is 2 then pike crappie and sunny all in together
Just another day on the ice!!!
