MY NEW PERMY BUILD!
« on: Apr 03, 2013, 09:24 PM »
Hay guys it's DA MAN CAVE SHACK it's been a while since I posted on here. But  I recently sold the cave and I got a good Price for it so I was happy. I am now in the process of starting to build my next shack. I will try to post pics tomaro but I can at least tell you about it today. It is going to be a 6.5' x14' v nose  crank down shack so from the tip of the nose to the back she will be 17'. I am building the frame out of 2"x3" steel tube and am costome making all of it including the crank down arms. The spindles are 3500lb spindles and it will use 5 on 4.5" rims and tiers. I think it is going to be named DA MAN CAVE II. that is as far as I have gotten I will try to get pics up soon. I am just so excited about it. Oh and I found 8 fish hole buddy covers on eBay for $80 and that seemed like a good price so I will finally have real hole covers in a shack which will be awesome.

I am using rustoleum rust stop gloss black enamel paint.

Check out POR 15 or even the aerosol cans of undercoating, rustoleum is the cheapest option but it will likely get sandblasted off your frame in one season.

Lookin good so far, I wish I had your tractor!

You are moving right along, very exciting! Thanks for sharing.

I think the paint will hold up fine, with the thick wall tubing you are using it will take a long time to rust through it. If you rinse the frame thoroughly before storing for the summer it will be fine for many years to come

Would really like to do the same kind of build your doing this summer.  Did a perm shack a few years ago and would like to do a few up grades.  Looks like the start to a great shack looking forward to seeing the pics as you come along with it.

How do you plan to support the inside end of the swing axles??

There is a 1/4 steel angel welded to 2x3 tube and when we instaled the swing axels we put the inside on a downwards angle and the welded them in so when the weight is addded they will be straight.

Here are som pics of the wwod stove I made this winter for the new shack. It started iut as a garbage picked air compresor. It is a baffeled design with fres air inlet from the outside.

Ok. I have a tube that runs all the way through my frame and the swing axle is welded inside the tube and has 1/4" thick walls. I think I could park my pickup on top of it without bending it. The welding shops do a lot of business because guys have built a shack that is too heavy for the swing axle construction. Looks good so far.

Curious it appears you are going with a flat roof . I would think this will create problems with snow build up on the roof.

Yes it is a flat rood and I thought abot a vaulted one but since it is already almost 9' tall when going down the road I decided to go with a flat roof. And I am not going to leave this shack on the lake over the week when I am not using it it will be in my driveway so if snow load does become a problem I will always be there to take care of it.
