jaw jacker
« on: Dec 19, 2012, 06:50 PM »
have recently purchased 2 jaw jackers and plan on getting out using em in a few days for trout. just curious if anyone has used them and how they work, and what you have caught on it. ( not looking for tips, just stories)

I use the automatic fisherman n have great sucess with it, last year pulled out many 32-38" northerns on montreal, it really sets the hook good, interesting to see how the jaw jacker compares to the automatic fisherman, good luck!

Are these "legal" in Sask?

I checked with the guys at Pokey's and they remarked that every time they've checked with the "law", it's considered a grey area.  Apparently anything that sets the hook automatically is in this grey area, and consequently, they won't carry these devices for this reason.

I'd like to try one, but not at the risk of a fine or a ticket.

Thoughts, opinions folks?

Thanks

Ive had a few CO come by and check cards but they never seems concerned about them, we usually always have 2 set out n yeah id agree its a grey area cuz its not a spring loaded gaft or spring loaded hook nor is it snagging or snaring lol

I made my own automatic hook setting rig 4 years ago. Works flawlessly never once lost a fish on it and it cost me $14 to make 2.

ive never heard that they are illegal.  its not a spring loaded trap, it just holds the rod back and the rod sets the hook, so im not sure.

Its 100% legal. They are even safer on the fish than a tip up as most hookups are in the lip. Spring loaded hooks are illegal because they destroy the fish, 1 lb or 20lbs you pretty much have no choice but to keep it. And if the spring went off too soon the fishes face is torn apart and will likely die

Some slight changes could be made. None since though the key is having several holes for different rod lengths . I use a 34" rod

I just made one of my own.

2 Screws

2 Nails

6" piece of 1.5" PVC

3' piece of 2x4

Coat hanger

and 20 min, easy to make easy to setup, can't wait to try it out, will be great to replace my deadstick.

had the jawjacker out yesterday and caught some perch, tho perch are nibblers so it sets off lots with no fish on. but I did catch a good 12 on it. gonna try it tomorrow with trout.

I got all Hot & Horny late in the season 2 years ago and just had to have a Jaw-Jacker. At that time of year they were all sold out except there was a fellow on eBay selling some.

Needless to say I paid just over $60.00 to get it in my hands, and to this day I still enjoy using it....there are lots of decisions I have come to regret but that is not one of them.  ;)

The difference between an 8" hole and a 10" hole is.....a 10" hole will usually give you your boot back!

In the food chain of life...its not good to be referred to as: "a good eating size".
