started with one three more quickly followed. Took a little getting used to but was worth it to me. Fish 13 no longer makes these reels. They are lot like scotch whiskey. You have to aquire a taste for them. I hate scotch whiskey to these day but love these reels.

Are you talking about a tear drop style jig or the tear deop reel that 13 fishing had out a couple of years ago?

IS this what we're talking about?  https://www.fishusa.com/product/13-Fishing-Teardrop-Inline-Ice-Reel

Never seen anyone use one before (not sure if that's a good or bad thing). I am intrigued though.

Yes that is it....

I could see a good use for it when fishing deep water or targeting Lakers. I imagine the gear ratio would come in handy for those applications. I've just never seen anyone using it. Let us know how it works for ya.

First off they were discontinued I think after the first or second year. the only time I have seen one in sue was a you tube video of a guy using it as a drop shot reel in open water. At the time I was going to get one but never was able to find one for sale.

Probably true.  I use one of my 8:1 baitcasters I normally use for bass in open water for laker fishing.  Stuck it on a Daiwa Triforce Shorty rod, and it's DYNAMITE!

But yes, the teardrop was discontinued pretty quickly by 13.  The Free Fall basically kicked it out of production.

That's a heck of a Laker set up. 8:1, you are burning some line...I like it!

My buddy bought this when it came out a few years ago. Had tons of issues with it icing up so bad that you could reel. Ended up only using it on warmer days in the shack; performed ok in that scenario. Overall wouldn't recommend it with several better options out there
