Can someone please tell me what that plastic material is that they use for the bodies of Simcoe Bugs?
They are not available where I live and since I can tie basic flies, I figured I could try making some for myself.....
Thanks,
Phil

Three variations on the theme. The basic one looks reasonably simple...

Its not the same at all, but I use clear stretch cord that's supposed to be for bracelet making. It's .5 mm in diameter, I think. There's also .8mm.

This is also what my buddy uses.

cool thing about tying is if you can wrap a material around a hook, its an option.....

I can see where that would work very well and be an even easier method.

If you want to try a more organic material, you can also use the individual pieces of wing feather off a goose. Cut one barb off of the center vein and then wrap it slow. You can then make the body in whatever color feather you can get ahold of. To keep fish from tearing it apart get some of the blacklight glue. Look for it on amazon. You can get it in about 2 dozen colors or hues. You coat the body with glue after you make the fly and hit it with a small blacklight. That will amost instantly harden the glue which will be clear or tinted in whatever color you want to use. That is how the artist in the pic you have is able to get that clear shell over the fly. It makes the fly indestructible.
Make sure the eye of the fly is clear before you hit it with the black light though. Once that stuff hardens getting an eye cleaned out is a son of a %$@@!%^.
