Mitchell Mackinaw rods ?
« on: May 14, 2011, 05:31 AM »
Has anyone tried a Jason Mitchell Mackinaw rod ? I like the looks of the turned down eyelets on the front of the rod. I wonder how the tip feels on the heavy action model ?

I gather you mean that they're spiral wrapped like this one of mine correct?
If so it makes quite a difference in how the rod handles/feels especially when you have a fish on. The guide design actually works to hold the rod upright (even with a heavy baitcaster) when under load. Standard on top guide layouts tend to want to make the rod roll over in the hand when under load.
I can't say how the Mitchell rods action and feel as I have never used one however.

That is the same design Dave. Yours is a better looking design, it looks much stronger than the Mitchell rod ! I noticed the feeling of my HT Togue Series rod wanting to roll over this winter. If you don't mind me asking, who makes that rod ?

It's one of mine Surflizard.   ;D
That one in the picture is super stout and way more rod than you would ever need down south.
I built it for 40# plus lakers and it can handle 15#'s of drag.  :woot:
I can dead lift a 12# lead anchor off the floor with this bad boy.
