"2:8:1" (1/6/18)
« on: Jan 06, 2018, 07:05 PM »
...What is the ratio of:

2 = Two lakes fished today with Shaun (Fishslap).  North Sterling and Prewitt.

8= The inches of ice we walked on.

1 = One fish caught all day.  A ten inch crappie.

Slow.  Slow.  Slow.  At Sterling, drilled lots of holes.  Tried everything.  Marked tons of baitfish, very few target fish.  Only got one to commit.  At Prewitt, drilled some holes off the dam and didn't mark a single fish.

Thought I'd give a thorough update today (no secrets)  @), since Shaun and I got off our bums and tried some lakes we had never fished. It's called exploring. And yes, there's always the chance of striking out.  If you don't drill holes, you'll never know. Get out and explore!

Well said.  Here’s my contribution from the day; a nearly excavated Shad entombed in his icy grave.  Other than that I got the striped kitty.

  • That’s why they call it fishing.

Right on, thats why it’s called fishing not catching. As long as your with great company, nice scenery, have safe travels, it’s a great day. Catching fish is a bonus.

Enjoy reading your adventures, thank you!

Ha, that was cool seeing it entombed in ice -- prolly still alive. Just waiting till Spring.  Anyone remember that 80's flick "Iceman" ??  ;)

It was great fishing with you today, as always Shaun.  Good laughs, exploration, and fishing.

We thought about checking Jackson, too but we ran out of time.  Slow day.  We were discussing if the night bite may be worth pursuing for crappie at Sterling.  Some guys were already on the lake at 7am when we arrived.  Soon after, they left.  Probably limited out over night!  ;D

Or got sick of the skunk!

I've never been a big one for looking at the moon cycles or lo/high pressure systems, but now am wondering if there was something going on atmospherically or otherwise on Saturday.

I've been fishing a small pond up around Longmont with good success over the last week, and when I took my grandson out yesterday to get him his first bass, we got the skunk too.  A few lookie-loos but no hook-ups.
There is no such thing as bad weather - only bad clothing.

North Sterling has not been willing to give the fish up hopefully it will get better if the ice survives 60 degrees and wind

Yup.   Did it the last 3 weeks all over Nebraska.   Didn’t get good results but exploring is how you find honey holes, and most of all get away from the googans.   I’d rather skunk at ponds in Nebraska trying for big fish than icefish metro area Slut lakes for tiny slimers.
