I say not until after x-mas. I will say December 27th. We will need some cold nights in the teens and single digits to get this year moving. If we can get a string of 4 or 5 nights in the low teens or single digits it will definately lock up some smaller lakes.

im gonna take a look at a spot this weekend when i go up to deer camp but i doubt it will be safe but im saying somewhere someone will be on ice the 17 of december hopeing to be out new years so lets all pray to the ice gods for some real cold and not windy weather

With the cold weather predicted next week, there could be some fool on Hills Creek State Park by December 1st. It will not likely be me, but by the end of rifle season there will be safe ice for sure. Sunday December 11th.

With these cold temps. coming it won't be long. If we can get another good cold spell without any wind after this weekend we will be on ice well before x-mas. Last weak a couple small lakes had ice around the edges.

Don't forget the snow. We're used to getting screwed in the Southeast as far as early ice is concerned. Every year when we get our first real cold snap, the winds blow for at least 2 days, usually a result of the clipper type system out of Canada. Last year, as soon as the local lakes finally got a lid on them, it promptly snowed a few inches making the formation of safe ice even slower. Let's hope this year will be better! Le't see; extreme cold with no wind, and no snow either. Hmmmmmm.... and maybe Miss Novembers car will break down right in front of your house, and she and her girlfriend will need a place to stay. From the breast of man springs hope eternal! The ice will get here when it's good and ready, so don't be caught without your gear being finely tuned.
