Single burner cook top
« on: Jan 22, 2021, 09:25 AM »
Hey guys, last year my trusty brinkmann 1 burner bit the dust.
Cheapo feeling stove that worked so well and was very light and portable:

Only one I can find a guy is asking 100 for one on ebay calling it "rare"..I foolishly agreed to pony up $60 for it and he declined my offer...moving on..
Anyone have any good suggestions to take its place, or know where I can find one? Thanks all

Cheap and works great, otherwise you can always flip the grate on your buddy heater.

Walmart and Fleet Farm carry these Coleman's. Had mine for over 15 years and love it. Pan/pots just fit on top.

I have been looking for a replacement for my single burner Coleman stove ..it still works but i wanted something more stable ..was looking into the butane stoves ..but after some research I discovered that butane does not like temps below 40 F ..they do make a hose/kit to adapt to propane ..some companies supply the hose/dual fuel . But if others have good results with butane stoves I may have to reevaluate my options .

Was trying to stick to propane so my bottles can be used on cooker or heater

Butane is a pain and harder to find then propane.  I would find something like this.

https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-PowerPack-Propane-Single-Burner/dp/B0009PUS6M/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=coleman+single+cooktop&qid=1611331399&sr=8-3
I think this is the ticket, reviews look decent. anyone here have one?
seems a bit spendy for what it is....

I have seen those...only issue I see is the bottle and holder would get in the way of yer pan or pot handle, and limit you to size of same. That's why I like the top-of-bottle burner, and they really aren't tippy. I haven't knocked my over...... yet. ::)

I have a coleman single burner.  It is round shaped, fairly flat and lightweight.  It will hold a large size fry pan or pots.

I cut a piece of 3/4 inch plywood to fit snugly inside a 5 gallon bucket, then put a single screw through the center of the plastic base. It's all sorts of steady. I use it for both cooking and heat. Works great, doesn't take up much space in the bucket.

Matt, I'll most likely have this come February.  Weighs 3.5lbs, can use a normal propane 16.4oz bottles and nice n compact.  If you get one too we could link them together and have a heck of a cooking surface.  They are however not the cheapest option.

Will definitely be checking out yours before spending $200 on a cooker... i like it, a lot. but i think i can accomplish the  bit of cooking i do on a more novice system
at the end of the day i can cook on my buddy heater, as long as i dont mind the wait.

I like white gas for cold weather. Iso/propane/butane mixes are worthless in winter.  These are pretty expensive, but worth every penny.

I have the same Coleman single propane burner RebelSS posted in the picture.  I always thought it was top heavy with a skillet on it.  I used to have a Coleman 533 single burner which ran on Coleman fuel.  I used it for years until it clogged up and I could not find another gas generator for it.  They have a much lower profile than the upright propane ones. They still make them except they now will also run on plain unleaded gas.  I haven't ponied up for one due to the high price, about $69 at Walmart. Right before Christmas they were impossible to find at any price.

I pack my jet boil around, with the larger pan I can cook bacon and eggs out on the ice.

I've done some mean crab cakes on the ice.  That jet boil is cool but 200 bucks is a bit steep.

You should be able to find one online, or clean out your old one with a pipecleaner and carb cleaner. I got a brand new one for my 502 single burner that was made in 1968 but didn't end up using it after cleaning the old generator. Most use the same generator as the lanterns. I like the naptha stoves a lot better than the propane for its low profile.

I eat pretty light when I'm out alone. Been using the MSR Isopro stove for years for quick cup of tea or noodles.  Proteins are often cheese/salami on crackers.  Added a Kelly Kettle with hobo stove last year but only take that if I'm traveling on snow machine.  Rigged the buddy rack and that works great for reheating stews, brats N Kraut or lasagna. Old Coleman 2 burner still works fine.  Lotta options to call upon as needed.
