My son and I were planning on ice fishing Halls Pond in Paris (Oxford Co.) for the first time. You can imagine our surprise when we noticed small yellow panels along the shoreline which stated that gasoline-powered augers were not allowed to be used on the pond. It turns out that Halls Pond (51 acre) is a source of municipal drinking water and the town wants to protect this source from potential pollution. Folks out there probably already know about this rule, but it certainly took us by surprise.
