First off it is good to here that Mrs. H2l is finally back home.
Secondly Thanks for the concern of me not posting. Not much going on around here to post about. Other than trying to find a place to get my meds with out breaking the bank. I did get three ordered from the pharmacy conected to the hospital my Daughter In LAW is the head of coding at. When I went to pick them up I was shocked at the low price comapared to what I was first quoted when my D-I-L got prices for me. Neither of us can figure out why.

I had an appointment with my diabetic specialist this week. He told me their was no need to take my bloods sugars any more as my A1C has been well with in the limits for a long time. Not really going to totally happen as I do not want them to go high again with me not knowing they are.

Spent yesterday morning doing the last of the grocery shopping for the Hoiliday, hopefully. I need to get my wild turkey and a turkey breast out of the freezer today as they get cooked ahead of time and just warmed up to heat. We have the assn. building rented for Christmas. I guess the water heater has been fixed. We will see if the manager is smart enough to light it as it is not the renters job. If the return air grate still has black mold on it I will be taking it off in front of the manager and putting it out side.

WW I think the wife has all of the cookies and candy made for Christmas. I should have brought the big old tin marshmellow container over here that my mother had full of cookies for us every year, for old time sake for my boys. I THINK all that is left is pie baking as far as sweet goods. I just went to the kitchen and she is making a couple of pies for the Senior Center Christmas party. tomorrow.

An old indian.just stopped  by and gave me a hit of Mad Dog 20-20, haven't had that in 45 years lol.

Good evening rain arrived this afternoon and still falling lightly weather guessers calling  for more rain tomorrow. How what ice we have here holds up between the rain and warm temps. is the big question on ice fishermen's minds.
Eddie good to hear your bait order arrived how was your outing this afternoon. May you not draw the short straw with any remaining outside work.
Hunts2long happy your wife is home and settling in sure Scout was happy to see her. Sorry it is always a long day for the two of you when traveling to from hospital.
Wallyworld did you complete your errands before the rain hit your area of NY. Is all of your holiday baking completed and you only have to pack for trip to MA.
Tom Turkey glad all is well may you find a low cost source for all your meds. I would remind manager to check on hot water heater in assoc. building so it is on before you arrive for the day. Hope you foind building in better shape then it was at Thanksgiving. have a good time at the Senior Center party.
Old Goat thank you for the jig offer I have to go through what I have pretty well stocked myself.
Whopper Stopper congratulations on a great day of fishing were you able to keep a few for future meals. Best to you if fishing tomorrow. How do you like your new hub-shelter.
Ice Wanderer hope only computer problems and we will see a post from you tomorrow.

                 Good morning Eddie, ER's,
It's 41* and light rain is falling on this shortest day of the year. ::)
Marv.........Great job on those Eyes.
H2L..........I'm sure your wife is glad to be home and in time for Christmas. I bet your happy you don't have to travel to the city for awhile.
Steve........No computer problems yesterday, I went ice fish with Jon NY and I was running late.
OK guys and gal, you read I went ice fishing, I met Jon in town and we headed to a lake up north and on the way a deer decided to commit
suicide, it damaged my grill, bumper and the right head light was hanging by the wires. But we ventured on and found 6" of black ice. We got our tip ups
set up for Salmon and it didn't take long for the first flag to go off. It was a Laker, then another flag and another Laker, that was the fish of the day.
Jon caught 7 and took home 2, and I caught 4 and took home 1. It was great being out on the hard water again.

               One of the fish

I thought I'd show what a nice day it was

I hope everyone has a good Friday either at work or out fishing.

45 and rain, lots of rain.

IW and WS good job with the fish. IW someone got a deer just below the house the other morning.

Last evening just after it started raining the road out here was a skating rink. The 1/2 mile or so that is next to the lake must have been just cold enough to make black ice.

WW, you ask Mr. WW if all those deer in the yard were facing away from him. It is a message they send after season has closed.

Pretty busy day yesterday. Visiting nurse came to see what new supplies we may need, we have got the new meds under control. Because of all the steroids she has taken in the last month or so, her blood sugar has to be checked 4 times a day and then insulin to adjust it. It is just a temporary thing and they told not to eat ALL the cookies, but she is keeping an eye on what she does eat.
Have a good day....h2l

WS Good job on the walleyes.  When I looked at the first picture I thought it was a grayling at first glance with the fin sticking up. DUH It is to bad they will not plant walleyes in the lake ay more. All they want to plant  is green striped carp aka also known as LM bass. our bass season is closed from Jan 1 through Memorial day week end so catching them in cold water is not happening very often.

I finally found out where the chickens that have been running loose all over the place come from yesterday. No one is supposed to have them in the Assn. If I could get them corralled I would have some good eating chicken for dinner. The guy that has them was a pain when the wife was taking care of a lot of things for the Assn. I might just turn him in for having them.

I thought the wife was done making sweets. Not! She made some Rice Krispy Treats yesterday that I usually do not care for. She put chocolate on top of these so they were not that bad.

H2L Hopefully your wife's blood sugars get back to normal soon.

I think I have the last of my meds ordered yesterday. It will mean a trip to the city to get it. That pharmacy is closed on the weekends so I might have to make the trip the morning of Christmas eve.

Good Evening, All

Got drenched with rain AGAIN, almost 3 inches this time, temps. were in the low 50's today, supposed to be no rain thru Wed. now

I.W. - Nice going getting on the fish - Did you bring the deer home?

W.S. - wtg with the fish, too

Mason - Was the party good? - At least some fish were caught when you went out

H2L - Glad to hear the 'boss' is home, feels good having her back, just ask Scout

Mrs. W.W. - I'll be dieting till 4th of July after the pictures of all the goodies made

T.T. - Fresh chicken for dinner once a week till the supply runs out

I.F.F. - Somebody has something planned for you

Fshnjhn - A banner year with all the cutting that was done, that's for sure, wtg

O.G.-45 - How are you 2 doing?

Clean - How goes by you, Sir?

Been keeping an 'eye' on the wife, she still has her moments with Melisa gone, this season being the first will be the roughest one, 1 of melisa's girlfriends, who I'm not too
fond of, calls every few days, 'I was wondering about this item or that item, could I have it?', Golddigger
Picked up a nice painting job in one of the upscale retirement communities nearby, the parents who lived in the house were moved to assisted living, the whole inside needs
a coat of paint, started that one yesterday (Thursday), nail pops, wall digs, gouges, scratches to be filled in, sanded, primed, the daughter & son are getting the house
ready for sale, still a load of clothes & furniture inside, that's what drop clothes are for, the flooring job has hit a snag in that the 1 senior girl who will be living in the
house thinks she is going to watching over the shoulder as the floor is going down, she is so afraid the floor is not going to be what she invisioned that she is coming
back from Fla., just for this, more on this as it develops

If someone was missed, sorry, just trying to keep up with everyone as best as possible

Good evening rain falling for most of the day flood watches earlier in the morning. A few errands and a little Christmas shopping in the morning then time to start gift wrapping .
Eddie hope everyone remembered there red shirt. How was the party. Congratulations on getting out before the rain and catching some perch.
Ice Wanderer glad Jon and you are alright hope damages to your truck are not to bad. Congratulations to both of you on the lake trout. Going from what I've been told about ice fishing for salmon the lake trout were high in the water .
Wallyworld did you get the house chores completed. Best with the baking tomorrow and safe trip to your son's. Any more deer stopping by to pay Mr.WW a visit.
Hunts2long may your wife's blood sugar level get back to normal and need to check it stop. Hope she has no problems with new medications.
Tom Turkey guess some people don't want to follow rules they agreed to when moving into your neighborhood. My complex is supposed to be pet free but I know of two families with cats and see others walking their dogs.
Capt. Jim have fun with the paint job definitely helps the appearance of a house when putting it on real estate market. Hope the tile job does not become a major pain for you. I will be thinking of you and your family  on Tuesday.

Have a good night everyone. Best to all fishing this weekend.

Ok guys I'm going to try to get back on a semi  daily visit here..
Thanks for all the positive thoughts on the season.. tonight the 3 of us each took a deer and FINALLY emptied the cooler.. I do have one coming tomorrow (a Seneca deer, which they have no season) however we are finally all done minus the smoke meat I still have to make..
I gotta tell you guys.. this year has been great BUT VEEERRRY stressful!!!! Rocko says he wants to come back next year and so does bob ( I put him on and trained him after the first week).. so hopefully next year I'll have 2 full time cutters that will work.. I dont have any final tallies on numbers however my guess is over 200 deer.. I have my hide buyer coming tomorrow to pick up hides and thatll give me a better idea how many I did... but.m we had alot ot deer caped as well as several brought in already skinned... so for a real hard number I'll have to go through my invoices and count them...
I have guys bringing in meat every day for smoke meat(I love doing the smoke meat) so I'll take as much of it as I can!!!
After we got done cutting tonight we had a few captain Morgan's and just shot the breeze.. I told the guys that in a couple weeks I'm gonna throw them a party where we just grill and eat GOOD and have some drinks with lots of laughs and they were excited to do that.. tomorrow a.m. I have to get up early and run to store for cleaning supplies to really clean good.. hide buyer coming first thing in the a.m... and I have to make smoke meat and tend to the smoker.  Gotta get some sleep so I'm turning in..
Good night all and I'll touch base tomorrow

                    Good morning ER's,
It's 40* and foggy here on my hill, the fog is eating up the snow. ::)
John........I bet your glad that the deer are gone from the cooler, good job. I'll bet the boys will like the eats and drink!
Tom.........I'd turn the guy in, if they're not suppose to have chickens in the Ass. then make him get rid of them.
Capt.Jim.....No, the deer was really messed up, the coyotes will get their meal. :woot:
We had 2.75 inches of rain yesterday so I'm sure the lake have risen and screwed up the shore line, I'm going to wait til after Christmas
to even think about going out. Plus I have to rest my shoulder, yesterday morning I slipped on the ice going to my boiler. I didn't go down but as I
caught myself I could fell my shoulder pull again. :%$#!: I have an appointment next Friday to find out about what the MRI shows. ???

Good Morning Jeff, Morning Everyone,
Woke to what sounded like a cannon going off, then a bright flash and another Boom! Thunder and lightning storm this am, 50*, that will be the high for today. Rain is supposed to end by mid morning.

Jeff...sorry to read about the deer accident, glad you and Jon were alright....that really sucks though. Nice job on the Lakers, thanks for sharing the pictures!       Had similar experience with Lakers up high in the water column on Otsego last year, just a few feet down over deep water. Seemed pretty strange. Hope the repairs on your truck go smoothly.  Crazy amount of rainfall here as well....hope your shoulder is ok, dang!
John...congratulations on reaching the final hurdle and sharing your reports here with us. Glad your new cutters worked out and will be returning, awesome!
Steve...unfortunately,   :nono:, we had two guys not wearing red yesterday, or last week as well, lol. After discussing the wearing of the red duct tape dot, that was eliminated. Those not in compliance now only have to wear a hat fashioned out of paper towels that resembles a chefs hat, with a red dot afixed, and smile for the camera. It's been quite entertaining and well received. Just foolish construction worker humor for the offender, but must say..moral has been at an all time high!    :roflmao:
Capt.Jim...my thoughts and prayers are with you all, stay strong for your wife. Congrats on landing the new paint work, and best wishes on the floor job. Never easy when someone's over your shoulder...hope it goes well.
Wally...thanks, it fealt great getting back out on the ice. Hopefully the colder weather isn't too far away and gets the lakes back in shape.
Bud...X2 on Wally's reply... Hope it won't be long until you join up with the rest of your crew!
Tom....maybe a small trail of cracked corn leading to a box propped up by a stick with a rope attached would work on those yard birds!   ;D   Enjoy all those fine baked goods the Mrs. has been making.
Marv...hope the fishing repeated itself yesterday! Best of luck today if you're heading back out!

Had some issues again with my truck yesterday morning, barely made it to work. Ended up being the fuel line that was cobbed by the other mechanic when he "fixed" my truck. He attached a regular piece of fuel line on a high pressure hose with a few clamps and a zip tie it was discovered. The zip tie broke, the clamps slid partially off, and gas was being sprayed all over the bottom of my truck.
Talked with my regular mechanic at 7am, and he had an opening at 1pm, so I left work early and road shotgun in the tow truck at noon to his shop. After getting it up on the lift, he was sickened at what he found, and apologized to me for not being able to have done the job originally. Long story short, he made the proper repair and had my truck up and running in slightly over an hour. His charge....a handshake, an apology, and Merry Christmas. I will take care of him today with a Christmas bonu$.
Unfortunately, had to miss the party, but it was a small price to pay for having my wheels back on the road...
Christmas shopping today with a bunch of errands in between...cawfee's on!
Have a great day all, be safe, best of luck to those fishing!

Good Morning. 34 degrees and not raining.

Capt. Jim, you and your family hang in there and remember all the good times. We will be thinking of you.

Lake came up over a foot since yesterday. All the ice went out up here in the river. Looks like it is piled up about 6 feet along the shore line in front of the house. Will have to take a ride down to the lake and see how the lake held up.

Took the wife to Amsterdam Market 32 where we met Lindsay and they went shopping yesterday. Wife had to use the electric cart but she had a good time. I didn't have to do the shopping so I had a GREAT time. After 27 days in the hospital it is going to take some time to get her strength back.

Not sure what she has planned for me today. I know she will be busy opening all the stuff UPS and FEDEX and MAILMAN delivered. Then she will have to wrap it so it can be opened again.

IW the shorelines over here have been bad because lake was dropping so fast, now with it coming up sure they will be bad. Not a lot of cold weather in the long range forecast.

Have a good day...h2l

Small skiff of snow on the ground this morning. The temperature has dropped for the lower 40's to 29*. I had put a block of ice out on the ground to thaw around the first of December. Part of it is still there. I had to bring the wild turkey in the house to thaw it as the garage is so cold it had not even started to thaw. It gets roasted tomorrow. My grandson that flew in from MN last night ordered wild turkey for Christmas dinner. I am not sure when the wife's grand daughter is coming in from Phoenix.

After watching those chickens run home while at a neighbors, I noticed that one had left me a present on the drive way where I park the car when I got back home. That is the second time that has happened. If they did not go home for the night and roosted where I could find them it would be simple to catch them in the dark. Eddie when I was little I caught a kitten that was living in an old barn next to a grocery store with a box and string. I used a slice of bologna for bait that the butcher gave me. I could never tame that kitten/cat. It would come to the house to get some thing to eat and go back to the barn.

ww Check your email. What I sent may end up in junk mail. tomturkey is part of my email address. The other thing is not due there until the 24th.

Eddie I was going into the city one time when my transmoission started blowing fluid out of the dip tube. I pulled into a transmission shop I knew about. The shop owner put it on the lift. He showed me that the vent was plugged and how to fix it. He would take any payment. The next time I was in town I dropped off a big box of home made cookies for them.

John It is time to get some rest. You have worked very hard to get all of those deer processed. I hope you are not going to grill venison for your helpers. ;)

Capt jim. I understand having some one standing over you back watching you work. I had a list of people on what I called the Do Not Work For list because of that.  I actually ACCIDENTLY hit a guy with a trowel with mastic on it that was always in my way while I was working on his bath room. That ended his being in the way.

Good Morning Everyone

Well I am back from the north woods and have to say I am still tired. I had taken off Wednesday around midnight and made it to the lake about a half hour before first light Thursday morning. I ran into some slippery roads or I would have had enough time for a short nap. I have been to this lake a few times over the years but this trip was the best yet. Part of the intrigue of this water is like many in Northern MN it’s fairly remote, and gets passed over by many for the more popular big lakes.

The lake itself isn’t all that big acreage wise, but it offers some great structure and food that the walleyes really do well with. It took until close to 8am before I saw some activity on my LX7. I was glad that I had brought my Otter flip over as the winds were 20mph gusting close to 30. I am pretty sure I would still be searching for the hub if it had gotten away on me Lol. There was good 9” of snow free ice so I was able to take my 4 wheeler where ever I wanted to go, however as luck would have it I stayed in the same spot all day.

I pretty much gave an account of my time on the lake and the fishing I experienced Thursday. The one thing I forgot to bring with was my phone charger and as the day wore on my battery was winding down. Shortly after dark I gathered up my gear and headed back to my truck. Out of the nineteen I caught I just kept 3 (limit is 6) so we would have enough for a fish fry. I never did get any bigger than 24”, however I bet the average would have been close to 19”, and all of them were nice and fat.

Being I was this far north I dropped in on my old friend Oliver. For those that don’t know of him he is an old Finlander that I have kept in touch with for the past few years after helping him get off a lake one ugly afternoon  in 2005. I was pretty much running on fumes but we stayed up until 10:30pm catching up on 2018. He had shared a can of Dinty Moore Stew with me and with a full belly I finally gave in to sleep. I woke up around 10am yesterday and Ollie had bacon and scrambled eggs waiting. He still isn’t sure how long he will be able to stay in his old house but he sure loves the winter so far. I ended up hitting the road around 2 pm and turned into my drive a little before 9pm.

The bad part of fishing up north is you realize how poor it is fishing around home. I was excited to catch 1 walleye sitting in the spear house sight fishing for a full day. It would be hard to go back to that after this last trip.

I have to get back on track with a few chores around home and of course I have my s-i-l’s trees to get done some time soon. I will probably go out on some local lakes looking for crappies but my walleye fishing is probably done for the season.

Hope you all have safe travels if taking to the roads. As always, stay safe!

Now I have to catch up on what is happening with everyone.
