Everyone was exited about getting together in January, but it seems that much of the intrest has died. It is too bad we had to pick the coldest day of the year to have our event. It is still up in the air if anyone wants to grab it.

I think we still have plenty of time to have an informal met and greet in March.

March 1,8,15,22, anything past that and we may be pushing our luck. I would say the 8th or the 15th would be a good choice. Bring an ATV if you have one, the ice can start to get slushy at that point. We can hope for "no shack" weather so we can BS and talk smart. No weather is guaranteed, but march is a better bet than January for a nice day with a good bite.

I will disclose to you, I have not been fishing Mille Lacs very much.

I know a few places to start, but I make no promises!

I think Mille Lacs sucks tooo!!

March 15 is a good date. Any thirds to that.

We can fish anywhere you guys want. I would prefer a lake that someone knows well. In March, our options are limited to pannies, so keep that in mind. A hot walleye or pike bite does us NO good when the season is closed. I am sick of Mille Lacs, and have been for years. The grumpy tourists and the "ice road barons" are enough to make me pull my hair out. Does anyone has a smaller lake, or a lake that we could get into some fish near the launch? I know that transportation on the ice was a problem with some members in our previous discussion. I like to fish Ann Lake off of HWY 47 near Oglive, but that lake can be fickle and that ice goes to heck in a hurry. Borden By Garrison can be good too. There are a ton of good crappie lakes by Brainerd too.

My vision of this outing isn't to catch a bunch of fish. I just want to meet you guys and bring "Team Minnesota" into the real world. I like beer too.

We can still fish Mille Lacs if you guys want, but I would like to discuss other options too.

North Long is a good suggestion....

caught a 8 lbs. northern lastnight and three walleyes.
merrifield bay has great crappies at dusk good perch all day.
oh and I live a mile frim the lake.

I'm still in. 15th would work for me I believe. I don't really care where we end up.....just getting outside of the cities would be a nice change of pace.

We will make it official this weekend. Allot of guys have not been on here since the change of plans.

It looks like it will be on the 15th of march on the long lake off of HWY 371 just north of Brainerd.

there is a landing on merrifield bay,it's right off hwy 3 across from the wagon wheel bar.
there is plenty of parking and that is the best place I've fished for pan fish.[/b

and we can stop at the wheel to WARM UP if you know what I mean.

The crappie bite can be somewhat crappy at mid day, do we want to meet after lunch?

A little pre fish never hurt anyone.

I may check it out too. I usually hit lake Hubert a few times before the ice is shot, maybe I will go to long instead. I have the lake on Lakemaster, it looks like a big deep sucker for sure.

Ok guys....

I am eyeballing Mapquest & Lake Finder as I type.....I show a "N Long Lake" E of 371 and Gull Lk, the same is W of Hwy 25 and just S of a Round Lk. I see a little town called Merrifield - but no road labeled Hwy 3.

I assume I got the right lake, but Lake Finder only shows a public access on the W bay, by 371.

Can some one confirm if this is the right one.

I will need to see what I can do to swap on-call w/ someone at work in order to make this.
