I enjoy riding up to Copper Harbor.  Schlatter might have enough ice.

Really envious! Was up in the 60's here all this week. I mowed my yard yesterday!
Keep it safe! JDL

Clear ice is the strongest.  When my son was going to MI Tech, he had fun ice fishing rice lake for pike.  When he went several years ago, there was plenty of snow and slush.  This is the time to get out there and be safe.

Fishing in Rice Lake is not the same as it was a few years ago. We fished it last winter a few times and a number of times the last couple of summers. We seemed to catch more walleye than pike. I know the old beds of cabbage that used to be north of the boat launch bay no longer exist. I have to wonder if someone used herbicide in the lake when they had the millfoil problem a few years back and it affected the fishing. We used to be able to go there and catch dozens of pike in a day. Not anymore!

That is disappointing to hear.  Were the walleyes at least close to legal size?

I'd say about 1 out of 3 were legal last winter. We have caught some nice ones in there during the summer in the past, up to 30" + but not any with any size the last few years. They may have disappeared along with the pike. I will have to admit that it is possible that I just haven't found the fish since the weeds died off but I don't know for sure.
