Walleye question for western PA
« on: Dec 23, 2012, 10:31 AM »
Ok when we get ice this will be my first year ice fishing. My question is what is the correct size and wieght to use for lures for walleyes on some western pa lakes? Most likely Pymy, Arthur, Kahle, ect. Also what lures would you recomend?
Example Swedish Pimple Size 3 1/5 0z?

Thanks. I don't want to buy $$$ of lures in the wrong sizes and weights if I don't have too. LOL The wife is already about to kill me................. ;)

far for me to tell anyone what to do to catch walleyes but from people i know who do catch them thru the ice. they use large creek chubs thru the ice at night in shallow water near drop offs .
hope that helps you

I would pick up a few 1/4oz. Vibe-E's or similar  blade baits in blue/white and chartreuse/white. I also do well on Slender Spoons in 1/8oz.

i have had good success with small frostee spoons around 1\16 to 1\8 . and also genz worms used on a deadstick while jigging the frostee. Also dont be afraid to go tiny like gill pills during the day with a maggot or waXie ,

For pyme 1/4 to 3/8 vibe 's. are the ticket. Also catches some very nice perch & crappies. Some of my biggest crappies have come on blade baits.

lindy or salmo chubby darter smallest or mid size. Dont let it out. for pymecatch big slabs and slobby perch too.I jig big creek chubs on a leadhead when I find some on the marcum. and get used to it the bottom zoom is awsome for walleyes that hug the bottom. Stay on top guys.

ClayBoy do u use a barrel swivel to keep the twist out of ur line using the darters? We used to use the jigging raps but the line twists were awful!

I do but not sure if they twist. I use one sz12/14 red barrel then jusyt a snap on the lure. But SHHHHHHHHHHHHH people will say only blade baits work.
