for a small lake it is very deep so it takes a long time for the water to circulate allowing the freeze, same idea as westhawk and how deep sections of that lake may never completely freeze over

FYI.
Today (Saturday Dec 1,2012) at Cabela's Winnipeg Todd Longley with City Cats will be there to give a seminar on ice fishing for stocked Trout in Lyons Lake. If you want to get your kids into ice fishing, or improve your game you will want to check it out. The seminar starts at 3:00pm.

more splake in there then anything,

and that rod would be a tad heavy for those fish haha, i use a medium light or light action rod in there usually
your rod you picked up there also has me intrigued, im considering making one similar to it
also if you ever need or want a companion on your "quest" for the monster i would be happy to join

Probably heading out mid January, should be frozen over, you can definitely come along, should be a good time.  I'll send you a PM when we are going out

How'd you guys make out? how thick is the ice these days with the nice cold nights?  I have a buddy coming in from San Diego (Which is Spanish for Whale's...) and want to go try our luck out there I think.

Cheers

We didnt end up going to lyons, but the trout lake we went to had 6 inches. Some places near a rock pile had 4, but lots to fish on.

I went to Lyons Friday the 14th and was only able to land 2. one small rainbow and a 14" splake. Had a lot of bites but they weren't hitting that great. There is about 6" of ice on the S E side of the lake.
