Just when I was thinking about heading out of sturgeon too. Meet up on Saturday looks good to go, I saw a report of 10 inch ice in certain places at long point but the same report said bad ice in other spots.

We were there today DEF not 10in of ice was more like 4in of black with 3-4in of white on top in aome places and then in others it was just 8in of all white ice

Needless to say we didn't see any fish on underwater cam just got 2 perch and when we left they started breaking all the shore ice from halfway mark towards the point.. That was crazy

If thers 10in of ice I didnt find it was nice to get out there though just them breaking shore ice was a littler crazy

It seems like dumping stone off a barge or something equivalent would be way easier, They have a crane on lake Erie to put the ice boom in and they do just fine.

Have they been seen actually installing stone? I deal with a lot of bank stabilization along lakes and streams in my work and ice is usually a no go. Of course anything is possible but it becomes extremely difficult. Can’t believe the DEC is okay with them tearing up the bottom with those excavators either.

Ice at Long Point is definitely not safe. The best ice we found was 4 inches good and 4 bad, some spots are nothing more than slush and white ice. My buddy had his foot go through near a stress crack. Be careful out there. Lots of perch but all small

The ice did not form evenly. This is the best ice this lake has had in the last three years. I just measured 10” solid. 20+ guys in sight. Couple other guys on here been out in the same vicinity the last couple days that can vouch. Fishing has been slow since Saturday morning.

I went way out to the middle of the lake from long point. Ice was 8 to 10 solid inches. There were guys all over. Stay away from stream inlets but other than that ice is shaped up nicely

Up to this point most areas did not have safe ice to fish.  Guys can't report if their not on the ice.  Long Point was the most active to this point.

Fished Long Point today. One eye 14 3/4”. 2 silver perch. And hundreds of dink perch. Drilled a lot of holes, pulled dink perch out of most of them. No jumbos.

I had the same issue last year at longpiont every hole had hundreds of dink perch and short eyes on my camera hopefully I'll have the time to make it out this year a bad day of fishing is still better the sitting around the house or working

Mayville was plenty safe. Took home 10 gills. 4-6" perch every drop down.  Haven't been hearing of anyone finding big perch
