I didn’t see one hut out there from Mayville to Hogan’s hut... Skip seemed pretty leery about any safe ice. Heard there were some folks at long point and it was a tough walk out... not worth going through for me. I’ll make the 150 mile round trip after good ice reports.

Hard to know what to listen to. I have been wanting to make the drive up there but I have heard so many different reports. Don't want to chance the drive to just turn around and come back home

If Skip says stay off you should stay off,may be a few pockets of thick ice from icetesters packing down the snow or shoveling off spots.The problem is that that region is constantly getting enough snow to bury tracks so how do you get out there ???Be paitent and hope the forecast is correct,then we should have safe ice by early next week,no fish is worth your life!

I’ve seen a lot of bickering on ice conditions. Do yourself a favor, instead of relying on other people’s opinions, go buy a float suit, a spud bar and picks. Then go check it for yourself WITH a buddy. Don’t be bashing people for saying the ice is fine when others disagree. Get away from the computer and get out on there and check for yourself. One’s idea of safe ice can vary from another’s. I’m with ya NATE.

It is pretty ridiculous that u would ask a man to delete his post where he gives his honest opinion. I have been fishing since 12/24 where I live and all u read is no safe ice. If you don't own a spud bar that's on you. The man said check for yourself and I think that's a fair and honest report thank you.hope they don't lock this thread. Mark

Whatever guys,the bottom line is that only a handful of guys out ,when a bait salesman says unsafe I think he would know whats up,we're talking about the mans business,not some dweeb on the internet. I've read several guys posts who said ice was junk,majority rules so go have at it,don't say you weren't warned if things don't work out for you,and if they do then God bless ya!

Walleyewonder you said that ice was good 50 yards offshore, but crap by shore. For me and most people that’s a long way to go on sketchy ice, especially at long point. That could be 20 or 30 feet of water, maybe deeper. If 50 yards off shore was 4 feet deep I’d be there. Not trying to start anything just posting my opinion, nice walleye, hope I can get on them in a few weeks. Hopefully days!

Nice looking eyes! One thing that always bothers me is the difference between the Oneida page and the Chautauqua page. There’s seems to be a lot more comraderie (spelling?) on the Oneida page, where everyone on this page focuses more on keeping everything hush hush. Don’t get me wrong I get it about keeping your secret honey hole under tight locks but for the most part we know the main areas where the eyes are targeted. I would like to see us (Chautauqua fishermen) show off our fishery a little more. Have a good day on the ice, why not throw a picture up? If you don’t wana share the location then DONT! Good luck everyone and stay safe.
