Against my beliefs Im getting it mounted, I have laminated graph paper to get exact measurements on the ice to be able to release and get a replica made....but was left behind at home.  I did remeasure before putting in the freezer and it was right on 11" with the tail pinched.  Now I just have to find a taxidermy shop around here I can trust.

That a saucer there; nice going! Hoping to get on my gill lake this weekend. There are some 10+ gills in there but they aren't built like that. ::) Beauty!

I thought I had one today until it flopped on it's side and I seen the dreaded red ear.  >:(   Ended up being 11" fish so a dandy none the less, but I was disappointed it wasn't a bluegill.  :(

That's a beautiful slab gill, congrats.  ;D

Well I did't know what a red ear was so I looked em up on Wiki;
"Description[edit]

Illustration of the redear sunfish, Lepomis microlophus
The redear sunfish generally resembles the bluegill except for coloration and somewhat larger size. The redear sunfish also has faint vertical bars traveling downwards from its dorsal.[1] It is dark-colored dorsally and yellow-green ventrally. The male has a cherry-red edge on its operculum; females have orange coloration in this area. The adult fish are between 20 and 24 cm (7.9 and 9.4 in) in length. Max length is 43.2 cm (17.0 in), compared to a maximum of about 40 cm (16 in) for the bluegill. Lepomis microlophus averages at a size of about 0.45 kg (0.99 lb), also larger than the average bluegill.
"
I've caught some big gills before but I couldn't imagine catching 16" ones mentioned.

Awesome catch.
