What line for micro-jigs?
« on: Dec 21, 2004, 10:49 PM »
I wanted to try some of the new micro-jigs,Marmooskas,etc. on an UL rod but,I'mwondering what line to use. I tried Power Pro in 2#dia.-10# test but I don't care for it-seems too stiff and takes too long for my jig to go down(seems like it wants to float) Anyone have ideas? Maybe I should go to a mono 2# test-what do you think? ???

right on bigred
your setup must be balanced, match the line to the pole and the jig to the line
you donot want the pole tip bent way down, or have no bent at all, try this test
in your house, your setup with about 2ft of line out and the jig on the end, move
the pole just a little watch the jig, what ever the pole tip moves[up-down] the
jig should do the same,if you have it set right you will feel the fish hit it or even
bump it most of the time, set the hook if you think you have a hit,
hope this helps
rat ;D ;D ;D

I would use two pound stren original clear. Best all around mono line. Maybe try P - Line fluoroclear in 2 pound test as well.

Just spooled up some 2# P-line Floroclear as mentioned above. Works great in the house, the only problem is there is no ice nearby! Hopefully, I'll make a run to the northern part of the state in the near future.

Thanks Mackdaddy & Van Cleaver--I've been wanting to try P-line for some time now and finally found a place in Can. where I can order it online-nobody around here seems to carry it. I understand they have a new ice-fishing line out now..Have you tried it? I just spooled some 2# XL on this rod,so I guess I'll try that,it sure seems well balanced in the house-can't wait to try it on the ice.Our ice should be thickening up fast, -33C. was the low here yesterday.
Thanks again

You can order it (P-line) from Cabelas, though I picked mine up at one of their retail stores.  One of these days I'll get stock in that company; seems like my money is always going there anyway! Have had good luck with Trilene for years, in fact that was the line I replaced.
