Since using baitfish for ling is illegal here, and I try to stay on the right side of the rules, I'm trying to think up some non-fishy baits for burbot....I know squid works well as TGF has shown me.....but what else have you used with success?
-
Ancient Chinese Secret ;)2   Has got me a few burbot, but I just can't bring myself to eat one that goes for my excrement . Derby OK, eating poor. ;)
I've also heard of liver, heart, chicken as long as fresh.
-
ive also heard of liver, and one guy i know used to use old freezer burnt deer meat with sucess, i would even try giving a big buck tail or marabou jig a healthy dose of shad scent for jigging, ya never know
-
burbot aren't all that fussy, whatever you have they will likely take!!
Anything that's meat they will eat!!!
experiment with certains "other" baits and let us know how you make out

2 ,3 fat nightcrawlers on circle hook (let's say #8) and they are yours!
-
didn't fishermanjake or whatever his name is use large plastic glow lures?
-
Yeah we do that.....I was just wondering what else I could tip the jigs with
-
Any kind of meat will work ,old freezer burn stuff works great , we also used the blood shot stuff from are deer last year and it worked great.
-
try herring oil, or man made scents...you get better action on the curly tail grubs with that anyhow, plus i've taken burbot without bait too, they just don't stick around as long
-
I have caught a few with those colorful gummie worms, regular not sour. And if the fish aren't biting they taste pretty good as well.

Go and get some frozen shrimp (not cooked) works great, believe it or not you might catch a pike.lol. Won a derby that way ;)
