Title: Aftermarket runners/hyfax for sled
Post by: piersm2 on Aug 06, 2018, 02:00 PM
Curious where everyone gets their aftermarket runners from?  Don't really want to spend $50 ordering them direct.

What are the dimensions that I would need?  I know length, but why about thickness and width?

Search ebay for hyfax. You may get lucky and find a good deal.

Maybe check with your local arena. Our arena was recovering a bunch of benches and stuff with puck board and I got all the scraps for nothing. It has worked really well so far.

lots of options.    teflon.  nylon poly pvc etc

go to lowes check out the trim and molding section.

most stuff will bend slightly with heat gun.     outdoors

or just try an old pair of skis

Try a piece of PVC decking I used a piece I had left over cut down to 1.5 inches wide.Extremely durable on 4 season's now and is sometimes pulled on road behind atv for short distances. And yes will bend with heat gun.

use snowmobile hyfax, cheap and bend easy. if you got a dealer nearby ask him to save the used ones for you, shouldn't cost you anything. just drill a hole bigger than the rivet head so you can recess the head in them a bit.

local plastic and metal supply house sells UHMW plastic (what they make the runners out of for the iditorad dog race) by the foot. Life time supply will cost you about 40 bucks. Cuts with regular circ saw etc and bends with a heat gun. Google UHMW and should be able to find it local or internet order.
