Well I finally got into some Walleyes! We went out for one last trip in the boat on Oneida from Sylvan Beach in 30-38 FOW and marked fish all over. The lake was absolutely dead, no wind, no boats, no waves...dead calm. Right as I landed my first walleye, WHAM, the other down rigger pole let loose...nothing like a double. Now if I can only get them sneaky eyes on the ice.

My first walleye

I have to represent the RS...get yours before they change the logo to ESF's Oak leaf. Last I knew Dave's/ Wanakena General Store had a small supply. Check their website.

oh they would NEVER dare change the logo....the alumni association would crucify ESF....we got some powerful members.  Plus when I was up there this summer, they had plenty of new sweatshirts with the traditional logo.

Yea our alum would go bonkers  I hope they would not change something that's so strong in tradition, but my last year at ESF they were selling (in Syracuse) the "new" shirts with ESF's logo on them.

Well yeah, that's syracuse...they can't be as good as us Rangers so they try to make us like them.....Plus the new owners of the store are alumni and they wouldn't let it happen either.  ;D

Ranger them sneaky eyes will come to you through the ice.  just takes putting your time in and trying different things.  hopefully 2 months from now will be doing ice checks to get out on the hard water.  Im stoked the time is near.

Yeah I'll take his advice. I think my problem with Oneida the past few years was the lack of mobility. This year I fixed my snowmobile so I will be doing a lot of moving and a lot less tip up fishing...at least on Oneida Lake.

Exactly was my thought, mobility. At my age and after a mile+ walk with all the gear I tend to become very stationary. This year I plan on taking more advantage of the snowmobile this year.

Age is not my problem  ;D while I was in Syracuse at college I would fish with some friends and typically use tip ups. Time to turn and burn. I can't wait for ice season, I'm going to go pretend ice fish in my shanty if it don't get cold soon.

I grew up with ice fishing, 90% tip-ups and 10% jigging. Now it's 10% tip-ups and 90% jigging, just the opposite. And it has been more exciting and productive, of course the flasher has a lot to do with it also.

I am looking at one-mans - that's for sure.  OR, I could just do the Snag thing - who needs a shelter anyways?

well first need to know if your a walker or are you mobile ,2 get a map of the lake, local bait shops are pretty good with info ,by the time we start ice fishing some reports will be here or on the conditions and reports page secret on Oneida is there is none ,there is alot of poke and hope it's a big lake but eyes are eyes no matter where you fish they all have the same habits ,don't go baitless on this lake they like a meal with their jig , i and few of us on here give dayly reports ,U can also go back and read posts from last year on the bs page there should make some interesting read after you sift through the ball busting tite lines

Hello everyone this will be my second year ice fishing.  I started fishing oneida pretty good at the end of last season and was wondering about the water clarity on oneida, if it is good for an underwater camera or not I have a flasher already but the camera would keep my nephew busy and I think it would be a nice tool to actually see what kind of fish is there thank you in avance

bb851 a camera works well on oneida.  I know guys that have them and never use them.  a flasher is the way to go.  cameras are cool if your marking fish and cant get them to bite so you can see what there doing.  your right though for kids its the way to go and occupy them.  just my .02.
