Ive been hoping for a real person to take to about the panoptix.... Do you like it that much more than a regular sonar? Here it is 3 times the price of my vexilar... 580$ vs 1900$
It’s a blast to fish with. With down view I love that you can see several feet around you even in shallow water, and you can see which direction fish are moving. This feature is also very useful when fishing in a shelter, more than one person can use use the same unit and be able to tell who’s jig is who’s and when a fish is interested in one over another. So much more can be learned from the live image vs the graph or flasher.
Using the forward view to Pin point spots to drill holes along depth changes/structure is a breeze, almost no need for contour maps (even trolling in the boat). Even if it doesn’t find the bottom hugging fish very well, you can still see them with some patience. If the fish are suspended, youd almost wouldn’t want to fish without it.

I also went ice fishing today. Catch was 124 smelt.
The temperature went up a little and ice condition is no good.

Niru-san, I think your ice condition must be good if you are driving snow machines on the ice.
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

Yes, I didn't stack. In that sense, I think it is good.
There used to be a terrible thing when my sled stacked. The color of ice at that time was similar to today's ice color.
I judged that there is a dangerous place depending on the place.

Yes,I have a YouTube channel, but I have not updated it recently.
I have video equipment, so I will try it next time.
I hope to introduce Japanese ice fishing to people seeing here an easy-to-understand way.
Thank you for pushing me back. :)

Thank you. :)
It’s fun to see pictures of American ice fishing.
I see Eskimo shelter someone occasionally using it even in Japan. I think that it is a color that shines on the ice.

Pic is yesterday’s ice fishing. This time, I went with people in work place.

In japan, ice fishing target is only smelt, I'm jealous.
I like fish dishes so I'd like to eat perch and walleye someday.

Why do you only target smelt, is it the only thing in season?

I also want to catch big trout, but from September to March is the ban fishing period.
I am envious when I see pictures fishing big trout at ice fishing in North America.

Niru-san,
That's too bad, big trout are fun to catch, I don't target them much anymore, but get them periodically while fishing for other species.

I also went ice fishing, and tried to new method of finding fish.
Fix Garmin 45CV to the handle of snowmobile, drill a hole just beside snowmobile.
Drop GT10HN transducer connected to 45CV, watch the screen reaction.
If I can’t find a school of fish, I will move quickly.
With this, I can speed up the search for fishing points.

In the middle of fishing, I ran on the lake and ate delicious ramen.

Now that’s the way to find some fish! People “run and gun” like that here in the U.S. for all types of fish. Keeps you busy fishing and not just camping.
That bowl of ramen looks delicious. I don’t often eat fresh ramen here, only when we go out to Japanese restaurants. I get ramen because I don’t like seafood (but love fishing  ::)).

Indeed, that is an interesting story.

Yes, "Kitakata ramen" is very famous ramen in Japan.
Just from this lake, about 10 km far away. I also love it.

Hello Niru,
Thanks again for sharing your fishing adventures. Are you allowed to fish at night? I love smelt fishing but in our area it is so much better at night. We put a bright green light under the ice just outside our shanty and it brings the smelt right up to the surface. During the day they are usually near the bottom in 10-20m of water but at night we can bring them up to just under the ice and they often swim right into the hole.

Thank you for comment. :)
Before, I was able to do night fishing night at my lake. But a man died by Carbon monoxide poisoning in tent at night, so night fishing was forbidden.
Before, I took my son who was a primary school student on the lake, we enjoyed night fishing together. It was very fun and that is a very good memory.
But there are still lakes where night fishing is possible.
This picture is taken on that lake two years ago. Green light imported from the US. It is a very beautiful light.

Niro-San:

I enjoyed seeing the picture of your Ski-doo Tundra. I also think that this is the ideal model for ice fishing. I also have a Tundra, but not such a new model.

Thank you for comment and picture.
The picture of the morning glow seen on the lake is so beautiful.
From my English teacher from Minnesota, I heard that walleye is very popular as a fishing target fish. Looks like so tasty.

Thank you for comment and picture.
Tundra is also using for ice fishing in Japan. I think last pic is your same model. It is very active.
I love my Tundra so much, and enjoy wearing various accessories.

Pic is today's ice fishing.

This thread is awsome, Niru thank you for taking the time to show us how you ice fish in Japan ! It's very interesting and with the way your sled is set up it would be a perch fishing machine here in the US
