2010 Spirit Lake perch bite
« on: Mar 08, 2010, 03:17 PM »
I have been taking groups over to Spirit the last 3 weeks. I have posted a couple of quick reports, then local boys are fast to down play the quality of the perch.
I have 1 photo posted on paulsfishingguide.com That is a 200 fish limit most of them ran 9.5" to 11" and yes 30 of them were under 9" that happens when 8 guys are catching fish so fast.

I am not bragging here, this is just great fishing bite get your kids out there and catch a few fish!!! Oh and the snowball fights are fun too. That reminds me I owe my oldest son a couple of snowballs to the head, he can really wing those babies.

Recap of trips, hope the ice conditions hold up a couple more weeks!!!!!

2/17  4 guys- 70 caught, 54 kept

2/26  2 guys- 66 caught, 50 kept

2/28  8 guys & gals- 240 caught, 200 kept

3/2   4 guys- 146 caught, 100 kept

3/7   7 guys- 175 caught, 140 kept ( 1st 100 keepers in less than 2 hours)

Alot of us locals see what comes in the bait shops to be cleaned, many don't break the 7" mark. Seen a limit Friday night, average maybe was 7.5" MAYBE. Might have been 4-5 that went 10, rest were 6-8".

Yeah I've seen so many buckets of 7-9" fish (with 7 being the average) it's not even funny. I've only been out on spirit once this year and just didn't see anything that impressed me. That day I know I caught over 100 perch and still didn't have a limit. I'm sure there are still some nicer ones out there just not worth my time. I would agree though get some kids out there they'd have a ball.

Really does it matter?  I'd rather see the small ones cleaned than the 10-11 inch females.  Why make the angler play the slot game, there is obviously plenty of small perch in that lake.  Can anyone have success fishin without someone b***hin?

Made it up last Sunday. Early morning bite was good out from Marble beach. Afternoon would have been better if I would have had the sense to change location to a softer (mud) bottom . (blood worm hatch?)
Kept 13 ...the little footballs look like 11's but are really 10's.
