Like in other posts, all the big drills with around 900+ torque are best. The 2 - 4 amp batteries most come with will drill more holes than most people will ever need
Depends where one is located. In Minnesota mid and late winter the smaller batteries usually aren't adequate.
Thank you all for the feedback, fish on.
Never had an issue at 4amps.....neveR even had to switch batteries last year hopping holes all day....in MN
The big 3 are Milwaukee, ridgid and dewalt.with at least 5ah batteries or larger.i run a ridgid octane with 9ah battery and it turns a 8” mora pretty easy.
Your battery must be bad. You only got 5 holes?
Exactly on a 4ah batter I've gotten 30holes in 2 feet of ice with a bar left.
Definitely depends on whether you're spinning an 8" or 6" auger. The 8" cuts almost twice the surface area of the 6". To give you an idea, last winter I was able to cut about 450" of ice (27 holes through 17" of ice) with my Rigid Octane and 3 ah battery spinning a 6" shaver style auger. Most days that's more than enough holes for me.
