Back in the saddle (11.25.18)
« on: Nov 25, 2018, 07:28 PM »
Needed to get back on the ice, so met up with Fishslap and we traveled the opposite direction as the South Park googans.  Really wanted to just get back in the swing of things and try out some new gear.  Wind wasn't supposed to be too bad, so we figured it was worth a shot.  Got to the lake and had the entire place to ourselves.  Spudded our way out, and found 4-4.5" everywhere we drilled.  The edges were kinda sketchy and a bit less ice.

Yeah, sustained winds of 20-25 mph.  Not too bad.  Blew ourselves around the lake looking for fish, and they were hard to find.  SLOW.  Managed a couple of pretty fish on my HD Ice.  They wanted it hard and fast.  New gear worked great -- my first Smitty Sled pulled very smoothly on the snow.  The new hat kept me warm, despite the fashion issues.  My M18 power source powered the flasher all day and was 3/4 bars remaining.  My M18/Clam/Mora setup ate through the ice.  Prolly drilled 30-40 holes and the battery is still at 4/4 bars.  All in all, a slow but successful outing.

Looks like a good way to start the season.  Otter, Marcum, Nils on a Plate and a Fuel...looks a lot like my setup.  Hope to get out next weekend.

Glad you had a good time. That is all that matters! :)

I love the sled, I bet it slides well on the ice and snow.  I need to find some used ski's and get my self a similar setup.

La belle chapeau. Where'd you score that? Raccoon?

Slayer, is that the classic 3 rod setup?
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

Thanks, all -- it was a great day, although slow.  Any day fishin is a good day.

Slayer -- it wasn't that much stuff!  I left the stove, cooler and coffee pot at home!!   ;D  But those skis really pull nice on the snow.  I can bring a bunch more than I need.  I will NOT be using this setup for any of the places that require a long trek.  I do like the idea of using a small kid sled for certain spots.  I might need to get one of those this season for traveling light.

Stinky -- Raccoon?  I wish I could say I trapped the rascals and skinned them myself, then sewed up the chapeau.  Nope, REI.   ::)

I can see plenty of room in Tommy's sled for the brewskis!   ;)
