Anything meaty and/or stinky right off the bottom.  Lots of guys use sucker meat.  Try looking under ther Burbot section towards the bottom of the community page.  Tons of info in those posts.  Good luck.

I like 1/4 oz lead head buck tails tipped with either a gulp minnow or a small smelt, I just hammer it off the bottom,

The only time I've had consistent fishing for ling is about 1 hour before sunset until a couple after. It is pretty slow the rest of the time but maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Thats usually the same for us. 3 weeks ago the ling bite for us was 9ish to about 11, then about 3-5. I don't know if it was the shallows that made the difference.

They were biting more in the day for us! A couple from this weekend. Caught about a dozen and kept half of those. This one of my lady's was the biggest of the weekend but all were pretty good sized. Put up quite a fight too!

I always use sucker meat on a BIG buckshot or something that makes noise and glows.

I caught them in MN at Lake of the Woods on a live minnow on a red hook fished right on the bottom. I catch them on the Blackfeet Res. with a Mimic Minnow jig with some maggots jigged. We caught them on Fort Peck on live minnows fished just off of the bottom. Those are big ling over there. Live minnows are the way if they're legal where you are.

Hi all, was at sutherland lake over the weekend. We fished by the dam on saturday and only caught 10 trout. Sunday we fished from 7 am till noon on the east inlet end and we caught 20 fish 5 were ling. 2 pounds were the biggest. The ice was 2 feet thick. At the dam we were in 13 feet of water and on the inlet we were in 19 feet. What is the best deepth through the ice to fish for ling?

Good ice. Slo fishing. 3 ling one trout. Fished off the boat ramp by the shack that says no pike for rent.

I fished the same area this afternoon until 7pm and had lots of fish sniff my sucker/worms/perch livers/perch eggs and not one of them took! Usually I catch something.

Talked to my father-in-law and he and a friend went to Martinsdale and Sutherland last Wed. thru Friday. Fished Mart. Wed. and limited out with nice trout. They were in 9 fow. Thur. and Fri. they were at Sutherland and caught 18-20 ling and kept 8 in the 22 inch range. They also caught a bunch of trout they of course turned loose. They were using sucker meat and crawlers. I think I will be heading up to Sutherland on Saturday. I have a red suburban and a new Eskimo Quickfish 6 red that I am using for the first time. Yippee!!! I will be on the east inlet end around the point. Maybe see some of ya there. Good fishing, Mo.

Wholesale Sports in Bozeman has some pretty decent sized preserved sucker minnows (10-12") that could be cut up.  They are pretty pricey at $5 per package of 2-3.  I have not tried them yet but I plan to give them a shot this weekend.  Normally I catch my own suckers but haven't gotten into them this year.  They also has frozen smelt that I used last weekend for ling with decent results.
