Perch Lakes in MT worthy of being "Assaulted"
« on: Mar 05, 2011, 12:25 PM »
Hi Gang,

I would like your input on lakes you would like to see a couple Perch Assault's on in 2012.

The three big criteria are...Perch, Parking and Proximity.  We have to be able to park 50-100 rigs and it needs to be within at least 25 miles to a town with restaraunts, hotels etc.

The obvious places like Francis, CF, Daily, etc have already been mentioned.  I would prefer a lake that doesnt already have a tournament or two on them, but won't rule it out if they do...

Places where the ice comes and goes and is not consistant need not apply!

Lets hear your ideas! ;D
If I\'m not fishing, I\'m probably thinking about fishing...And if I\'m thinking about fishing, I\'m probably not getting much else done so, I might as well go fishing...Yeah, I just said that!

throw out daily then, sure its close to livingston, or emigrant.  Parking 100 + rigs would be a task, I think.  Not to mention it froze, thawed out, froze again and now it sounds like its open again.

Have seen some goofy stuff on that lake before, 14 to 16 inches of ice then 10 foot circle wear its thin enough to punch through with a dipper in the dead of winter. Assuming springs won't catch me out there with a 4 wheeler .

Beaver creek, Fresno, or Pishkin. Would be cool also if you could make one tournament a walleye-perch with combined weight. Or how about something by Seeley.

any parking for neveda res except along the highway?  I don't recall any campground or...?

Pishkun is intriguing for a one dayer...francis or holter for a two day?

I've heard the ice can go to crap on Beaver Creek real quick too. May try to get info from locals on if its real common or not.  I know there tournament was canceled this year because of poor ice conditions, which was in early-mid Februaryish.

Nevada's got plenty of 4-7inch perch, but not enough parking, nor town/hotel

Sounds like a lot of lakes had ice issues this year.  Kind of a weird year for weather.

Thats what is nice about the lakes around here, Jan Feb and Mar are pretty solid bets that no matter what lake we do, we will have good ice.  Might be messy on top, but good underneath.

I know its been mentioned, and they already have one tournement, but CF would be the perfect spot. There is lodging in townsend and Helena isn't that much farther. the campground is open at the silos store with full hookups and cabins. Easy access, and can parking is as good as it gets. Ice is always solid.  Would really make an ideal two day tourny spot. Did I mention big perch!

Thanks for all the input, gang!

We might have to save CF for the State Championship.  Thats one of the main reasons behind more Assaults is to increase the pool of contestants to draw from for the State Champ.  I will be talking to Dave from Lewistown soon and see what his thoughts are for the state tourny.

In the mean time, there has to be some more lakes out there...

I would like to perhaps see a small lake that could be a short, 5 hour walk out type tourny...without everybody needing to haul 4x4's and sleds parking isn't quite as big an issue, along with one that could be a two day, major event...

One of the lakes could certainly be a "mixed bag" event, like someone suggested, walleye/perch or perch and sunfish/crappie/bluegill/ or ???

Thoughts?

pishkin(if you limit it to one of the bays), dailey, bynum are all small enough for a walk out.
If we do a mixed bag I'm voting for crappy/whatever I've always wanted to fish for them.
