A complete guide to ICE CONDITIONS
« on: Feb 20, 2022, 06:42 AM »
Here is a link that everyone should read.
It is the most complete guide that I have ever seen.
There are more links to specific situations on the right column of the article.
This article will further educate even the most knowledgeable ice angler.

I have the burning desire to go fishing although I know, that if I never catch another fish, that I have caught enough fish!

Very informative, thanks for posting. Here in central Wyoming wind is definitely a huge factor in late season ice deterioration.

Honestly, I would have assumed way more people die during late ice than early ice.

I have shared this to numerous groups in the past during early/late ice.  A few give a thank you for the info, and the rest poo-poo it and tell me to hit the road while telling how long they have been going on the ice, etc...

Ice is never safe.  That's rule #1.  We went out with the neighbor last week and he drove back into a bay where a stream ran into the lake.  My son and I both had our windows down, seatbelts off, and doors cracked open because we knew what we were driving over.  The ice was 2.5 feet thick, but it was still nervy.  6-12" of snow, sunny/warm days, and a big diesel truck made us very nervous.  The water was 5-10 feet deep so we weren't too worried, but we didn't want to get wet either.  (It wasn't our truck)

Heard of over a half dozen people an 3 machines that went in on local lakes after a big warm up/ rain/ and then a refreeze. Wish people would review these more often. Never hurts to brush up on the material, it may in fact save your life one day
