Brant Lake, NY - 1st timer
« on: Dec 23, 2018, 06:11 PM »
Hello All,
I am headed up to Brant Lake for the 1st time tomorrow, getting on at the boat launch ( IDK any other spot to get on) and looking for crappies....
Anybody got any tips to send my way (lures, fow, weed location). Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance and Be Safe!

Be careful around the launch since it is closer to the outlet and there is some current there.  I haven't been there much but when I did parked along the road on the east side.

You would be safer and better off going out by the girls camp/ Jimbos that's about 1/2 mile north of the launch.

You're more likely to find crappie up there as well.

I went out from jimbos on Saturday.  The ice was about 6-7 inches on average.  Atvs and quads all over.  A few spots north were only about 4 inches but still safe. Good luck.

Is Jimbos a public parking lot? Going up to Brant this weekend for the first time and it seems like that is the place to park. All ice is pretty much melted in Sullivan County. Thanks guys. Tight Lines.

My ice fishing buddy mentioned Jimbo's,  ( not a formal public lot )  to me and said that he went there a few years ago. I am not certain about parking there now, but other icers have been there fishing, so I am assuming that it's accessible. Teaching Junior to carry in, carry out in hopes that access  like this will be available to all .

I got married at jimbos.

I believe it’s public parking during the winter. They accommodate snowmobilers and ice fisherman in their resteraunt for lunch. At least that’s what the lady told me 7 years ago. Not too many wedding venues there in winter or the girls camp isn’t active.

There is a lot across the street from jimbos where they allow fisherman to park. They are no longer allowing fisherman to park at the restaurant as far as I know.

Yeah there is a sign right as you pull into Jimbos that instructs ice fisherman to use the public lot across the road on route 8. This is a clearing in the woods across the road from the girl’s camp tennis court. It’s a pain to drag your gear from there, but I have been dropping it off down below then going to park. I have seen other guys do the same. I think as long as you are only stopped near jimbos lot for a quick time they won’t have a problem, or haven’t so far.
