cant go wrong with suckers between 6" to 8" and if you can jig up some smelt while you are there better yet.  if you have a fish finder find what depth the smelt are traveling at set just above them ,alon with setting deep i also set a couple just under the ice about 3' down i know most will say its a salmon set but i have gotten just as many lake trout doing this because the smelt travel just under the ice alot of the time ,plus you may score on some salmon as well. good luck

^ +1

if you don't have a fish finder and have to just guess then 20-30' down is a good bet in my experience. i usually set most if not all my tipups just under the ice for salmon and pick up a decent number of lakers that way too. smelt are the way to go if you can jig them

yea the laker fishing is really tough! i like the lake but i getting 5 lakers a day is a great day! but the pike and pannies can be huuuuuuge! ive taken second in the derby 4 years ago with a 5 pounder. have fun and stay safe guys and leave the weelers at home!

You took second in the derby with a 5 pound pike?? Or laker??

Got a good report from one of my local friends.  Consistent 9" ice from Schroon boat launch to down lake mile 1/2.  he brought his large wood shanty out there.   Things looking up

Just talked to a friend of mine that fished schroon today. They caught several small lakers jigging and later in the afternoon he caught a 26 lb. 45 inch pike on a tip up. It was weighed in at nemecs sports shop in warrensburg. I will try and get some pics and post them.

Guys were seen fishing off Eagle Pt Sunday.  There is access of Adirondack, cross the brook, road takes a sharp right, go straight, access on left, drop your gear there, parking on right up the road a little ways.

I am planning on coming up next weekend to finally get some ice fishing in, first time fishing this lake, first time fishing any Adirondack Lake actually, grew up in Wisconsin and moved out here this past year.  Is there any place to find a better contour map the than this http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/fish_marine_pdf/schrnlkmap.pdf from the DEC.

I'm not positive but Hotspots might have one for Schroon
