I want to try and catch some Burbot this year. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what to use as far as lures and bait go. Any info would be appreciated.

For cusk, i usually use dead smelt (it helps if you squash the already dead smelt a little with your boot) and then let it sit on the bottom and wait...

If you can use livebait the bigger the minnow the bigger the bubot . I try to use my big minnows I catch , 5 to 6 inch ones work real well . Put them on and put them right on the bottom .

Thanks for the info. Does anyone jig for them or is dead bait on the bottom the ticket?

Large glow in the dark soft plastics on big jig heads work very well. Especially if you tip them with fresh dead bait.

Sucker meat,or perch ribcages after getting filets(if leagle in your area).Fished close to bottom or just on bottom.

Hi labbybass,
Burbot can be caught on most baits that you will use for walleye, pike or perch.
I have had them hit on fresh frozen smelts, shiner minnows, squid and soft plastic single, double tail or swimbaits tipped with some scent, or scented them selves.
Fish close to or on the bottom and you should do OK as long as your in the right area at the right time of year.

I typically catch them on fathead minnows while jigging for crappies or walleyes.
