Was out today from NorthHampton. Bite was non existent. I walked but wheelers and sleds both had no problem from the campgrounds.

Thanks guys I'm just wondering if the rain in the forecast is going to help or hurt the top of the ice supposed to get very cold for a few days after the rain??

Have a camp between Kathan's and the Dam but haven't ever caught much through the ice. Anyone else have better luck than me in that area? How's the ice holding up for this weekend?

I would be VERY VERY CAREFUL going out on ice there because of the swifter flow of water equals thinner ice as it heads towards the dam. You would be better off taking a drive to Town of Day boat launch area. You need to find out ice thickness there. We were up that way 2 weekends ago and had 12"+ of mixed ice. Snowmobiles all over too. You need to find updates for that section. Not many people fish it and report............

Without a doubt I always spud my way out and I’ve seen some wild stuff happen on the open water when they open or close the dam.

I've been hitting the ice on GSL for a few years now and recently moved to the area. I've done all kinds of research trying to find (walkable) spots on the lake and just cant seem to figure the fish out. If anyone that has a better understanding of the lake wouldnt mind me picking their brain it would be much appreciated. I'm not looking for spots or anything like that, just a tip or two. Thanks in advance and tight lines!

Scottjosh , I have always had good luck during the early season fishing shallow shoreline structure early and late in the day, whether it’s an inside turn, point, undeveloped shoreline,or a creek mouth. Same goes for late ice. In midwinter I try to find deeper structure, humps, sunken islands etc. Hopefully that is helpful to you.

Posted on this thread last year and got some good advice so hoping for a repeat! I was originally staying at a place on Sinclair rd but they sold the property and cancelled my reservation out of nowhere. I’m now staying at a house on North shore rd by a marina. My question is, how is the fishing in the arm (if that’s what you call it) or should we plan on going south towards the main body? And is there a bait shop nearby? Thanks in advance and everyone have a safe season and tight lines!

Moose  If your coming up from Amsterdam Go to Ross's in Hagaman     If on the other side (west) stop at Jim's bait in Mayfield     Jim's is a little better supplied but I'll go to either
There are some good days to be had on the "Dead Sea,"  but you realy have to work at it   Good Luck

2 days ago, I was fishing a small pond near GSL and drove by to check the ice. Some guy had traps set out just north of the Sport Island Pub and was walking off the ice with a power auger. Parked in front of the pub and spudded out about 15ft past the dock and there was 1 inch of ice. The ice was popping and cracking just as I was standing there. That guy had a set of brass ones to be doing that

No problem. Like you said, it’s hard to believe some people will risk their lives for a fish, especially during the holidays.

Hey guys hope I’m not that guy, coming from out of state, have until Sunday to cancel Airbnb. Will be first time fishing GSL, any updates on ice conditions on the lake? Hoping to be there the 15-16th.
