Was out Friday and had 4 to 7 inches, whole lake locked up. It should be much better after the last cold nights. Fishing was sooo slow!

I was there friday night too, lots of wind flags and perch. My buddy caught one eye, otherwise slow is an upgrade from what it was

Are there any areas to look out for other than the obvious inlet/outlet for thin areas.  The wife and I will probably make a trip Friday and or Saturday to there but I am unfamiliar with Mashapaug, only fished it once from kayak.

Yes Bug, it was great to chat with you, I did ok. 1 eye, 1 yellow. But I did find a nice school of calico on the jig, got around 20 with some real slobs in there

Has anyone been outside the boat launch cove towards the middle of the lake?  And has anyone ever caught smallmouth in there?  Looking at navionics (if it's right), there is some good looking depths and structure around those islands out in the middle.

What's a navionic? A phone app?

Use navionics . Location is key

Post by: wrx2017 on Feb 16, 2019, 06:08 AM
I have the navatronics, and have an idea of where to set up. But it is dependent on ice thickness of where we are going to set up too.

Good luck, we managed 4 flags and some action jigging. A couple pickerel and some yellow perch. Saw a couple trout on the marcum underwater camera, they were not having it though. Also, we saw a ton of small yellow perch 5-8” range cruising around in packs.  Not a bad day, but not a great one either. We must have been in a bad location based on the crazy hot action I hear about there.

Why? Looks like cold temps on the horizon to me. At the least Litchfield County will be building ice all next week

I didn't catch a thing last night. I'll try another location next time. Not sure if I'll hit Mashapaug again this season though, Bigelow is right there and has been more generous with the fish.

The state needs to get rid of closed season on certain ponds. Open them all up. Especially Mashapaug there's going to be good ice there for probably a good month. Just get rid of the closed season already you aren't going to be stocking any fish until right before opening day which is a joke anyways. We pay good money to go fishing and extra if we want to keep a trout. Just venting but I know that there's a lot of anglers who feel the same way. I also understand that alot of people enjoy opening day as a tradition and something to look forward to.  :-\
