Portable Locator...
« on: Dec 10, 2005, 05:10 PM »
Just found this online....http://www.youcansave.com/fishfinder.asp just curious if anyone has tried one before.  If it is any good, could be an afforable gadgit to catch more fish.  I know it would not compare to a vex, but also 5X cheaper.

not sure how it would do on 4 - "AA" batteries, they will freeze up on ya, operating temp from 14 degrees  :-\ If for icefishing this might not work for ya. Plus, if your planning on fishing over 80 FOW, no good either.  :(
I've used my portable Fishing buddy that ran on 3 - "C" batteries and they would do wacky thing and not work sometimes in the cold, would have to bring inside the house at night, and put a glove over the batteries and sometime add a hand warmer to the mix to keep the batteries working. And even then, it was really only good to find the depth.
If you plan to use it for jigging, I don't think this finder is for you, only to mark water depth.
Save your $$$ and go for the plunge and get the vexlar or marcum, you'll be 200% happier.  ;D
