not sure how it would do on 4 - "AA" batteries, they will freeze up on ya, operating temp from 14 degrees
If for icefishing this might not work for ya. Plus, if your planning on fishing over 80 FOW, no good either.
I've used my portable Fishing buddy that ran on 3 - "C" batteries and they would do wacky thing and not work sometimes in the cold, would have to bring inside the house at night, and put a glove over the batteries and sometime add a hand warmer to the mix to keep the batteries working. And even then, it was really only good to find the depth.
If you plan to use it for jigging, I don't think this finder is for you, only to mark water depth.
Save your $$$ and go for the plunge and get the vexlar or marcum, you'll be 200% happier.
