Bean's fishin' buddy
« on: Feb 20, 2004, 07:28 PM »
Here's a few pictures of my boy on the ice.  He always seems to hook into a few no matter where we go.

Buck, That is a Frabill Ice Shuttle that came out about 25 or more years ago. I still see them around here every year even though they stopped making them a long time ago. It was a great little sled that even had a windbreak. The cushioned seat was removeable and you could store your gear inside. Plus it had a spot on the front for a bucket to carry minnows or whatever. I think they were around $89 when they came out. Here's a picture of one with the wind break set up.

How old is your boy?  Mine is only six so I am afraid to take him on the ice yet.  He would probably only last an hour and start wining about wanting to go home.  Summer fishing he always seems to land a fish or two as well.  That's always exciting.

Grush.

Grush, he was 8 when those pictures were taken. Yeah, I only expected him to last a few hours on the ice so I would make sure to take a thermos of hot chocolate and sometimes take a small grill so we could make hot dogs. I'd try to hit lakes with a good panfish population to keep the action going. I'll take him once or twice a year on milder days that aren't windy, which helps also.  Now he's 13 and into girls, so we'll see if he still wants to go out with his old man or not ::)

Nice job taking the boy fishing.

Some of my greatest memories surround hunting and fishing with my Dad and Grandfather.

Those bonds and memories will last forever.

Its hard to get little people into icefishing, with the cold and all. My 7 yr old girl likes to go but she doesnt fish much, mostly just wants to hang out with Dad. Thats OK by me.
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

Yep. you had to do some hunting to find it, with it being almost 5 years old.

I just recently bought a Frabill "Ice Shuttle" off of someone. It is in incredible shape. I'm impressed with how light it is. Plent of room for all of my gear with room to spare and the fabric for the windbreaker is like brand new! Here are some pics.

That is in great shape. You found a gem there. I saw 2 people had them at a lake I was fishing at yesterday. These things haven't been made in a long time and glad to see people still using them.

I wonder if  enough people ask, will frabill re-continue making the ice shuttle. I really wanted the glide sled, but when I saw the Shuttle I liked it more. The glide sled is just missing something

You just have to love that face on the kids. You will get him back, girls always seem to take priority for a while.
Here's my son, almost 18 and the best bud on the ice there is. The smile is from setting up his new tip ups he bought himself working every night at the local convenience store.

Also those sleds are the bomb. Would give every fishing spot I know to have one like that.
