Made it out to the cabin. :)
Light was really flat so the sledding was not a lot of fun as you couldn't see squat and hitting snow humps was pretty sketchy at times. The good news is the locals have plowed some decent roads on the lake and my neighbor has plowed right to his place and put in a great big parking lot for us. :)

Now for the bad news, I blew a tire on the trailer on the way home and while I was changing it out I noticed the other tire has some pretty bad cracking going on on the inside of it. My second spare has a rim leak so unless I can fix it tonight I won't be going out tomorrow. :'(

Marv good going on the keeper pickereye.  ;D
Good on ya for giving Jr. the pike. I can see him running and yelling with it flopping around.

Hello ,I had rain for most of Saturday lots what most of the snow cover my area had today. So far my computer internet connection and phone are working fine. The mild Winter has caused two ice fishing contests in my part of NY. to be rescheduled to mid/late February .
Eddie did you find ice you are comfortable fishing on yesterday.
Ice Wanderer thankfully no illness for me currently. I think some ice fishermen are never thought to respect others fishing setups and the area they are fishing.
Hunts2long I'm surprised there is that much ice on GSL given that it is a reservoir with changing water levels and the mild Winter we have had to date.
Wallyworld congratulations on winning the fishing trip.
OldSailor hope the water softener is in and working.
Whopper Stopper congratulations to you and your SIL on the walleye. May your SIL's act of kindness please the fishing gods and result in more fish on your next rip.
Drifter were you able to repair the trailer tires so you can make another trip to your cabin.

I will heck later today to see what everyone is planing for the day.

              Good morning Steve, ER's,
It's 33* and cloudy here on my hill, we had about 3" of wet snow last evening. ::)
Steve...…..It started to rain here around 3 pm and changed over to wet snot around 4 pm.
Wally...…..Congratulations on winning the fishing trip, I'm sure it will be a good time to see how they fish.
Marv...…...Good job out there in Shamu, that was a good jesture of Jen giving the boy the Pike.
OS...……….How is your wife doing with her cancer, is she ready to start her radiation treatments.? ???
H2L...……..Good luck tonight at your bowling match. :flex:
Eddie...…..Were you able to get out before the rain came? ???
I went to dinner at #2's in laws last night, they had Lamb which my wife isn't a fan of, so her being at her mother's it worked out.
My wife will be coming home today, her radiation treatments resume tomorrow. Right now the only side effects is a little redness
they gave her some special lotion for.
I hope everyone has a good Sunday either at work or out fishing.

31* this morning.
Mr. Clean, I am sure that there are areas of the lake that have less ice. I know down toward the dam there is some bad areas. Late in the day on Sat. it looked pretty wet in spots on the Northville end and the edges looked wet. The lake is still about 10 feet higher than normal.
Lindsay came up yesterday and did her taxes. The dogs had a good time. Wife made chili, it was a good day for it. I watched the Syracuse game.
Have a good day....h2l

Good morning everyone

28 mild and cloudy. It will get into the 30's later.

Taking off in a about 15 minutes to sit in Shamu for 3-4 hours. The girls are heading to the Jungle to take in a cat show. My s-i-l wants another kitten so she is going to look at a few different breeds

I'm not sure how long I will be able to leave the house out as there is a lot of flooding. I am hoping I can get 3-4 more days out of it but it all depends. Right now is it a slushy mess as the snow continues to melt.

WW Congratulations on winning the trip, I completely missed that

Hope you all have an excellent day  Stay safe.

Morning all,

WS......good luck out there today  :icefish: :flex:  hope your s-i-l finds the "purrfect" kitty  :woot:

IW....safe travels to MrsIW, fingers crossed any side effects from the radiation treatments are mild  ;)

MrC....had freezing rain/ rain/snow/sleet all day yesterday along with some pretty breezy conditions, just an ugly day  :pinch:   heard ice conditions were going downhill fast  :(

Drifter.....hope you were able to get your spare fixed  :)

H2L....chili fixin's are getting thrown in the crock pot here this morning   good luck tonight  ;)

Eddie....good luck if you're heading out today  :icefish:

Thanks for all the congrats, really excited about winning the trip   I picked the salmon trip on Ontario   The Romanack's are both really nice guys, we chat with them every year at the show so it will be kind of like fishing with friends (friends that have tons of experience)  ;D anyone interested can check them out on fishing 411 on youtube or some outdoor channels on tv.

Good day, 45 here with partly cloudy sky and a 10 MPH wind. What some cover my area had from Sat. Jan.18TH storm is mostly gone after yesterday's rain only piles left by the plows remaining and looking at this week's forecast those will melt down.
Eddie best to you if headed for one of your area lakes/ponds today.
Ice Wanderer happy your wife is only having a mild reaction to the radiation treatments to date. My opinion on lamb is the age, diet and how it is prepared make a difference in how the meal will taste. My local dinner is owned by a Greek family and the lamb dishes on the menu are very popular you need to get there early on the night the have lamb as one of the specials as they sell out quickly.
Hunts2long thank you for the info. on GSL . Best to you and your team tonight at the bowling alley.
Whopper Stopper may you have a good outing in Shamu. Having a shanty I guess you need to stay aware of changing weather and ice conditions and how they will affect the shanty. Once your SIL decides on the breed of cat I suggest visiting local humane societies /animal shelters may not find a pure-bred but will have lower costs to adopt over purchasing a cat from a breeder. Whatever she chooses to do may the new kitten fit in well with the cat/cats she already owns.
Wallyworld I figured you upstate NY.residents saw a Wintry mix or snow yesterday. Hope you catch some big salmon when you make the trip.
Drifter-016  may you have the tire fixed by next weekend so you can get to the cabin. How did you like last night's NHL All-Star game. I understand why the league went to the current format for the event as it allows more players to be involved but I'm not the a big fan of the three skaters and a goalie for each team game. Personally I enjoy low scoring games with good defense and some hard checking. Guess I'm in the minority of hockey fans and team sport fans as most sports have changed their rules to make the games faster paced and higher scoring.

Have a safe and good Sunday everyone. Best to all fishing.

Drifter I think the puck tracking and player name features are use so that folks who do not regularly watch/follow hockey can better follow game action. I'm not the biggest fan of them either personally thought since your a hockey fan you would watch any televised indoor(Box) lacrosse games over soccer.

Good afternoon ER's got back last night driving back straight through; 1 stop for fuel 7 hrs. Left after work Thursday via Grand casino near Milaca MN. I would stop there one more time and Black bear casino once. The winnings paid for almost the whole trip. No sleep as I then went in the morning to Brainard International Race Track to check parking situation for following day then off to see where everyone was pre fishing gull. Everything was put up already except the holes which are 15 ft. away from the next one and they were put in starting 5 pm. Slept in the car that night went ok. Awake and get to BIR early to make sure I can get on shuttle to contest area. The bus ran me there and all gear. I asked how much gear can someone take on bus. The person said as much as you want. A few shuttles have left now so I slowly got all my crap together and board the shuttle; I was the only one on it and Driver takes me alone and all my crap to lake. I get off and meet a volunteer and now have heard of MN nice she flags a truck down and they drive me right out on the ice. I felt like now I have had 2 Limo rides already. There's already a couple thousand people on there holes already. Pre map looking I thought to try to stay in the middle of the 4 boxed area of the grid. 61 ft. deep where I was and read tullibee are bottom fish so I stay thinking if anything comes through higher I'll adapt. Nothing did. 5 guys from St. Paul arrive and take the 4 to my left and 1 to the right. They forgot bait, spud, and scoop so I give them 1/2 my minnows and use of the other.  National anthem before the cannon is fired. To be continued.

So now I have the IS Flag up and had only one person ask about it. As it turned out he was one of the 5 right on my left and he had a Humminbird Helix 7 gen 3 or something with nice features I really like how he could bring up contours, had a flasher and graph. So the one of his buddies had the bird 35 and I thought with birds on both sides the vex might be alright with interference because no one being behind me as it was the last row in the middle of the grid for 100 ft. easily. Not so interference was tough at the beginning. The guy on my left would later catch a tullibee good for a spot on the board and a prize but unsure what he won. It was a weight of .88 pounds and there was a couple people with fish weighing the same. His pic is on the Extravaganza site though. My bait caught a fish I did not. I'll try to find out what he won on net. 15 ft. away and I had a chance to chip out the hole and check with finder before  they got there. Oh well my bad. The crowd was loud at sight of someone catching a fish and within 2 min. people were going to weigh in fish must be in water and kept as they are released later. B 93.3 driving around in truck giving out random give away prizes 2 given out within 20 yards of me and I think one of the biggest they gave out that day was 500 bucks. It was a gas at the 2nd canon fireing ending comp. 3 hrs. some people still were running to weigh in fish as the second canon sounded and they stopped running the crowd moaned and waived them on then cheers took over I think you get a few minutes to get to weigh in areas. Would I go again yep I did here radio mention fish slayer so

Good afternoon everyone

OG glad your return home went well, sounds like a couple good casino stops  I heard there were 10,000 people at the contest, did you bump into anyone you knew  ;D

I returned from the lake around noon, had a good time sitting in Shamu. Lots of people walking around in the slush, I am glad I have the house well blocked. It sounds like the next 6 days will be mild so depending on the snow melt I will leave the house on the lake. I was all set up about an hour before light. About a half hour into it I had a bite and pulled up a 10" crappie. About 15 minutes before I could see a 25" pike nailed my Buckshot jig and it managed to get into my dead stick  causing a mess.

Just as I could see bottom 2 carp scooted through, by mornings end I saw 6 more

In all my sit produced 8 carp, 3 pike, 1 nice walleye passing by :%$#!:, 1 dandy bullhead, and a decent bass, a crappie that I caught along with the 25" pike. I may bring the spear with next trip and see if I can stick a carp, 1- to see how big they are and 2- a guy down the road smokes and eats them.

I have to go look at a tree so I best get going.

Hope you all have an excellent afternoon- evening   Stay safe.

Marv I did not run into anyone I knew. I don't know the actual count total. It's at least not like the zoo down here where people climb over you to get a spot.  I'm glad you at least bumping into people while fishing it was ok I thought before this aint my cup of tea as I prefer solitude and tranquility out on the ice. I did talk to someone with a new vex 28 and helped him get it set up he was from Iowa there was a bunch from Iowa who did quite well not sure if they made the top 150 though. I like how they announce fish coming in wt., species, depth, bait used. I did get compliments on my home made sled. I did have issues with sled malfunctions though which kinda took the wind out of my sails. Coming off ice with crowd someone behind me says your vex is still running I said well turn it off; he did and the people liked that. Marv I might have the second casino name wrong if so it was pretty close to Duluth or in that general direction. On the way home I passed a body of water I think St. Albans or something like with Fish castles lined up like a freight train and a big one all in a straight line you seen this? or know about water

Marv it was the guy in 118th place Praseuth Vichaiyarath  0659       (08826) his buddy was standing at stage he told me 80th place but did not know prize yet. I went back and found the prize list I think he won a strikemaster auger if I read prize list correctly. Congratulations to the WW on your trip win.

Good Morning Everyone,
Cloudy 33* this am, high of 38 today.

OG...glad you had safe travels back home and found some good luck at the casinos! That had to be one heck of an experience at the contest.      How was the weather?
Wally... congratulations to you and Mr.WW on winning the fishing trip, that’s awesome!
Marv...another good trip! Hope you get a few more in before having to move Shamu off the ice again. Will be looking forward to the carp harvest and maybe that big Tuna will come by another visit yet...good luck today!
Jeff...fished until the rain moved in around 1pm Saturday, found a good pickerel bite but that was about it. Yesterday was a skunk for me, my youngest son caught a few trout. We found about 7” to fish on...4 of it good, the rest white ice.  Good luck today if you’re heading out. Hopefully the rain and warmer weather didn’t wipe out the ice on LG.
H2...hope the team swept the lanes last evening!
Dave...sorry to read about the tire issues, that sucks. Hope you get better weather for next weekend and the trailer problem is behind you.
Steve...found quite a bit of black ice on the roads yesterday morning from the rain/melt down...the snow is dwindling away, would be a great time to see some cold weather move in now!

The weekend sped right by again....back to the grey stuff this morning. Drifter, we could sure use another blast of that cold weather you have up there...Cawfee’s on!
Have a great day all, be safe, best of luck to those fishing!

                Good morning Eddie, ER's,
It's 32* and cloudy here on my hill. ::)
Eddie...…….I'm headed out in a few to hit LG, I guess the rain didn't hurt things too bad. :flex:
Drifter...…..Like anything else, when you don't do an activity for a while, you get sore, age has something to do wit it also.
Mar...……….Looks like Shamu is doing well for you, keep up the good work, I hope you can spear a couple. :flex:
Steve...…...We didn't loose much snow here with the rain or warm temps, colder temps coming again tomorrow night.
OG...………...Sounds like an interesting trip, glad you made safely.
As I said earlier, I'm headed out today for some perch and will set tip ups to see what else I can catch.
I hope everyone has a good Monday either at work or out fishing.

Good Morning ER's Eddie the weather up there was perfect right around 32 the sun hid for most of the day though. The wind was 5 mph.  I forgot to mention I stopped in the local FF and they had a yellow tag clearance sale 25% off of items already on sale. I found some Asso line marked down already from 10.00 to 1.99 so it had a yellow tag too so now at 1.50 I bought 8or 9 of them. This line is really good but very lite. 8 oz. and 1 lb. line test. Have a good  day

Good morning Eddie, IW! Good morning everyone

24 sneaking into the 30's later today.

Eddie good going on the pickerel  Sorry to read you had to deal with rain.

IW best of luck on the ice today :icefish:

WW are you going to bake some boat cookies for the maiden voyage?

h2l you ever have a 300 game ???

Good morning OG! I see you slipped in.

I have to get my hair pruned first thing this morning and then a few stops on the way home. Not sure if I will make it to the house or just skip the day. If I do go I will fish the second half of the day.

Hope you all have an excellent day  Stay safe.

31* this morning.
IW, you be safe out there this morning. Good Luck.
WW, congrats on winning the trip. It should be fun.
Eddie, pickerel can be fun. You don't see many in Sacandaga. Yesterday when I left for bowling the lake looked pretty wet.
WS, no 300 game for me. I think my highest was 268. My only claim to fame was I once picked the 7/10 split. My high 3 game total was 688. Good luck on the ice if you get out.
We took all 4 from the second place team last night. We have next week off because of the Super Bowl. Wife and I (I watched) tried to get one of the other Apps (or whatever they are) set up for Fox, nothing worked because they all asked for your provided, DISH in our case.

Hi all! The weather roller coaster is in full operation!! Mid 30's heading for the 40's this weekend. WW, if you want to try out your boat, bring it down here!!  ;)  My wife's radiation has been scheduled to start Feb. 7th. This weekend was a busy one thanks to my BIL's help. We installed a new water softener, converted our fluorescent kitchen lights over to LED shop lights, and took down an old chandelier and put up a ceiling fan/light! With the covers on the kitchen lights, you'd never know they were shop lights!! And they are BRIGHT!!! I hope you all have a great day at whatever's on your schedule!!!

I just got back from Shamu. I fished from 2:30pm to 6pm. I think I will stick to mornings. I didn't see anything until it was getting dark when a medium bullhead came to check my jig. I was going over my list of baits that I have used trying to entice the "Tuna" and noticed I hadn't tried wax worms, so I bought a box for todays attempt. Just as my viewing light was running out a legal walleye came busting into the hole looking to eat . It swam up to the jig, checked it out and left :%$#!: I know if I would have had pinched fathead on it would have ate. It seems the pinched head is still the ticket for everything except the big gal.

When I was wrapping up a guy came over and asked if I had ever seen the monster walleye in the hole. I fessed up and told him I have been losing sleep trying to figure out how to get her to eat. He said 4 people that he knew of have seen her, so far no one has had it do more than stop and look before swimming away.

Tomorrow I plan on getting to Shamu about an hour before first light, who knows ??? The end of this week into next the temps are supposed to be in the 40's, I am thinking the house will be coming home soon.

Hope you all have an excellent evening

Can you use live minnows on the lake?
If you can set up a rod with a small light wire hook, small split shot 12"-18" above the hook.
Hook the minnow (2 1/2-3" shiners are good) just behind the dorsal fin.
You can use a small float to suspend the bait at the right height (close to the bottom).
Use light flouro (4#-6#).
Put near the corner of your hole and jig another line.
Try a gold Mr. Champ and 1/2 a minnow.

Hopefully the jig will bring fatty in and the struggling minnow will entice it to bite.

Thanks Dave, I will give that a try!
