Title: Treble hooks
Post by: IcePirate6 on Jan 18, 2011, 08:32 AM
Im looking to change a few rigs for pike and put either trebles or sure set trebles. What size would you recommend? I like to use big bait when I fish that is why im leaning towards the sure set for a better bait holding hook. Right now I use 2/0 and 3/0  for regular hooks.

I find that for quick strikes bigger isnt always better.  I like to downsize the size of treble and have found my hood up % increase.  I would say go down to a 1/0 (I think thats what I use).  The smaller hook allows the pike to take in the bait easier without sensing the hook, with the quick strike set the hook right away.  I have never used sure set trebles before though so cant help you out there

Thanks. I was thinking of going with 1/0 and 2/0 and seeing which I like better to start. The 3/0 just seemed way to bulky
