For the snow drifts or does it not freeze over?

There's a good 18" of ice and all the main roads are open so I dont know what the ladder comment is about. The bite is @ early morning and at sunset/little after in 15-25 FOW FWIW. Pretty slow fishing and be cautious aroung the pressure gap in the middle of the lake (you'll see it). Good luck.

In spring the water fluctuates up and down. You could go out in the a.m. and when you come back to your truck it will be 3 ft of water between you and the shoreline. It's full right now, tho, so hopefully that won't happen. I mainly stay in the Black Hills where the ice is even and secure.

They're usually letting water in all winter, thus creating poor ice/open water at shore pretty much anytime through the year.  However, this year they are holding the lake level at 80% and waiting for the spring runoff.  No water is coming in, shorelines are solid so no need for a step ladder.

i agree with traxion, no water coming in or going out, so the shorelines have had a chance to freeze up solid.  best ice i've seen out there in years

i'd imagine it's pretty tough getting around out on Orman right now? i guess even more now - can you get near the water off of fruitdale road or is that all snowed in?
