Title: Most ice off lake pike?
Post by: Codyjames215 on Feb 05, 2016, 11:04 AM
75% of the ice came off my lake this past week. No safe ice to fish. Anyone have suggestions on how to target pike ?

Same area you would if you were on the ice, only in a boat.

That would be large shiners in 6-15 FOW shiner about 4 feet under ice. I'm using slip bobbers and not producing. Wonderfing if I should be using dead bait

Try dead bait laying on the bottom of the lake.  ;)

What kind of dead bait ? Something from the supermarket ?

How big are the fish you are targeting? I love dead bait and rarely fish them on bottom. If you are fishing that shallow, suspend it half way down. Or try casting crank baits man. Slowly retrieve them. If you're in 6fow, also try glide baits worked slow to the boat.

5-20lb fish. It's weight there is a 75 yard strip 30 yards wide to an island which is anywhere from 6FOW to 10FOW with drops offs the 30Ft on both sides. Bunch of weed patches in the shallow water. We are fishing from bank so the area is limited. I'm here again today with large shiners and frozen smelt from the supermarket with their heads cut off.  I only have the shiners out on bottom now too windy for bobber
