shiners just saying

I use a 1 gallon picnic jug to keep my shiners in I pulled  the drinking spout off it and use a battery powered aerator by putting the hose and stone through that hole keeps up to 3 dozen shiners alive all day the left over bait goes same  jug but I loosen the cover and put an ac powered 
aerator in the jug set the cover on top so they dont jump out and they are good for about two weeks then feed them a little tropical fish food after the 2 weeks and just before you change the water repeat as needed keep bait all season go to the bait store or trap bait when convenient

Great idea. I was planning on buying a $5 aerator for an aquarium for keeping them at home just like you suggest. Next yard sale I'll keep an eye open for a picnic jug. Thanks for that tip.

Just an aside. I was in at big bear on Saturday and they had O2 tabs you throw in your bucket in case you don't have an aerator. The I was going to buy one guy gave me one  and my bait is still kicking as of this a.m. no water changes. 3 days not too bad. I'll keep you posted.

I bought a cheap 40 gallon tank on Craigslist a few years back. I run an aquarium filter and aerator in there. Haven't had a single bait die yet this year!

I put 5 dozen in my cooler with aerator only lost 2 in 2 weeks and they were ones i had on a tip up one trip...@ brendog good idea with the filter but i did that a few years ago i was spending more on filters by the end of it maybe i just had too many shiners in the bucket

I only change the filters once a season and bought a box that had either four or six in there. I know what you mean though! I'm just glad I have all the stuff I need so I don't have to sink any more money into it!

I bought a feed TUB for $14 from tractor supply and put 2 a.c. aerator in there and have 8 dozen mediums in there now.  Nice cool basement.

Ran O2 tabs for a week. no water change.. 60 degree basement , no mortality yet. Wanted to dunk em this weekend ended up renovating a bathroom instead. ARRGHHH

I guess it depends what a "season" actuallu is but i can tell you im down to about 3 dozen already. Going to see what the extended forecast looks like and if we will be making more ice. If it looks good, i will get about 20 more dozen.
