Minus Freaking Cold
« on: Feb 04, 2007, 02:22 PM »
Well my partner and I decided to brave the elements yesterday and head to LOTW for some whiteys. Glad we did as it was the best day on the ice for whiteys that I have ever had. I guess they were stocking up before the storm so to speak ;D
At the starting of the day they were mostly in the top 25 feet of the water column dropping lower as the day went on. They guy with me is a rookie all the way around when it comes to ice fishing. I think he is hooked now ;D
Again I was using very aggressive tactics to catch them.

Where were you fishing on LOTW?
I never go after them there myself, I always target Shoal Lake. I usually do very well there.

You are right about the minus freaking cold thing. This arctic air is going to sit on us another few days yet.
Currently here in Kenora it is -33C/-25F according to the government weather service.

Take care,
Glen
PS - With a handle like Scuba I gotta ask - you a diver? - You dive locally? West Hawk?

Nice Fish!!!!! Wish we had them that big here in New Brunswick :(
Do any of you guys ever fish simcoe?
Used to fish it in my college days, what a big lake.  Mostly targeted perch, however It was hard to resist going after the Whities and Lake trout.  One of my great memories of simcoe was when my roomate caught a 15-20 pound laker on 4lb test, fishing for perch!  Quite a fight!!!

P.S. That cold is coming our way......we have enough ice now thanks!!!!

I gotta ask how big those things were.  I've caught a 4lb'er before but nothing that size...MAN that is awesome!

What were you using?

Thx for the kind words fellas. Neptune we figured they were 26 inches and over. Next time I am going to bring a tape measure. i was only keeping the ones around 20 inches and there were not many :o

I have been fishing them very aggressively. I use a bigger jigging spoon tipped with Berkley sparkle maggots.........deady ;) I use about a 2-3 foot jigging motion fishing the whole water column.
