Title: Lake Pocotopaug???
Post by: CaptainMike69 on Mar 08, 2019, 06:15 AM
Has anyone ever fished? Every time I drive by it even after a really good cold streak it always looks unsafe or you can see open water. Does this thing ever freeze and if so is it any good to fish?

Pocotopaug has no public access unless you are a East Hampton resident. My uncle lives in the town, the fishing is slow and the lake is full of springs.

Caught some big Walleye out of there years ago. No public access.

I know it has no public access. I know a few property owners. However, it seems like it never freezes.

When I fished it in the past it was in March when the trout lakes closed. It does freeze up good some years.

They used to put walleyes in there a while ago don't know if they still do.   Due to the difficult access it does not get a lot of fishing pressure.  Fishing was slow, but did get a few nice walleyes.  I saw a head of an unlucky walleye sitting on the ice one night and it was the size of a large blue fish head.   Had to be over a 10lb fish.  That was over 5 years ago. Haven't fished it in a few years, lots of shallow areas with springs seem to keep areas open longer.  Need to have a good cold few weeks for that lake to freeze

The lake had a over abundance of stunted whites and yellows with fish kills common. The town started stocking Walleye to manage that problem. Pretty sure it worked. There is a 20 in size limit in there.
